Laptop shuts down when starting and keyboard disabled

My laptop had a fan issue for a while. So, on starting, it was telling me that a fan was not working, and asked me to confirm by hitting the “enter” key that I really wanted to start it. I’ve been doing that for a while.

I dropped some rhum on it. It infiltrated only in the touchpad, as far as I can tell, but it was enough to disable the keyboard. Keys weren’t responding, or were typing weird things. It might be more than the keyboard because the external mouse also acted weirdly (highlighting several folder or files when I was clicking only on one, etc…).

In any case, I restarted the computer, forgetting about the fan issue. And now, the computer keeps warning me that a fan is disabled, and since the “enter” key doesn’t work, I’m unable to bypass the warning, and it shuts itself down (note that “escape” and f10/f11 keys don’t do anything, either). Letting the computer dry didn’t help.

Is there any way I could fix this issue and restart the computer? Thanks in advance.

External USB keyboard maybe?

It would take over the regular keyboard on starting?

It depends. Probably. (Not “take over”, too; more like “work along side with” the regular keyboard, but working better because it’s not drunk.)

FWIW, you’re better off fixing the fan problem and replacing the keyboard. And not dropping booze on it any more.

Indeed, it worked. I didn’t expect it because I thought the computer would need to start first before noticing there was a keyboard plugged in.

Now, I’ll be able to transfer the data without removing the hard drive. I’m not going to bother changing the fan or the keyboard, this computer was at the very, very, very end of its life. I’m extremely surprised that it kept working so long (screen damaged, one of the hinge relying it to the screen broken, USB port damaged, the case itself broken open, chord between laptop and screen damaged, fan not functionning, battery not holding in place…). I’m surprised that it was a mere sip of rhum on the touchpad that killed it.

And maybe I’ll be able to play Fallout 4  (ETA : I would expect a laptop that has been in use for a couple centuries after a nuclear apocalypse to look pretty much like mine)

Thanks.

In that case, pour out a 40 on your electronic homie!
