Laptop wireless internet question

For some reason, the wireless internet on my laptop has only functioned intermittently for the last week or so. When it fails to connect, it will either not recognize my network (it will see others) or will say the signal isn’t strong enough.

Additionally, when it does work, it is extremely slow. My wife’s computer is on the same network, and it works fine. I installed new drivers and checked for viruses/spyware. The same thing happens when I try to connect with a external wireless USB network adapter. The internet works fine with a wired connection. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.

What OS are you using?

In an imaginary straight line between notebook and router has anything been moved in the last week or so that would sit between between the notebook and the wireless router? Anything been been placed near or on top op the router or notebook?

Using Vista. Nothing in the setup has changed.

I asked, because I had the same problems and inconsistencies when using Vista. The moment I started using Windows 7, the problems instantly disappeared. I have absolutely no idea why.

In fact my laptop dual boots. If I return to Vista (which I avoid if at all possible) the problems start again. I’m obviously not saying that Vista is necessarily your problem, and equally what I’m saying can’t help you, but it may be an indication at least.
