Large rocks found in treetops, how did they get there?

See the definitive paper on the topic: “Paper, Rock, Scissors Ultimate Grudge Match: A Preemptive Strike By Pulpwood”.

Avalanches, not glaciers.

If the terrain isn’t steep enough for avalanches, maybe the UFOs bent the countryside sideways until the snow slid!

Two very skeptical theories:

  1. How many people have actually been to the location? I could create a convincing version of this in Photoshop.

  2. If I were a prankster, it’d be a lot easier to get something up there that *looks like *a boulder, than to hoist up the real thing. Waterproofed papier maché?

I don’t know anything about blasting; for those who do, does this sound plausible? It sounds like a terribly sloppy and dangerous blasting job if it results in 400-lb rocks flying 80 feet into the air.

I’m having a little trouble with the “prank” theory though: it doesn’t seem worth the trouble. It’s in a remote location, and hoisting a 400 lb rock 80 ft up is a fairly dangerous and difficult work. I have no doubt it’s possible, but would someone actually do it?
