This was described to me by a friend, maybe 20 years ago, and I’ve never been able to find out more about it. My friend had not visited it, she had seen a documentary about it.
She described a large field containing hundreds (?) of vertical metal cylinders, in an area known for frequent lightning strikes (Death Valley maybe?). The idea was that the lightning created interesting visual effects by striking the rods in an unpredictable pattern. This installation / attraction was open to the public, but not viewable from a distance, and visitors were not allowed to take photographs.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
