Hmm, not many non-US dopers in this thread, so I get to be the first to admit not having heard of San Antonio, TX - #7 in the list. Don’t know how I missed that one - the next one that stumped me was #30 which is Louisville, KY, and of course I know of many more beyond that.
Perhaps best known, here and abroad, as the home of the Alamo: Alamo Mission - Wikipedia
Huh. I live in Gilbert, AZ, which is south of Mesa and east of Chandler, so none of those tripped me up.
I’m surprised so many people haven’t heard of Mesa. I heard about it hear and there when I was going to elementary school in Illinois and Ohio, long before I had any inkling that I’d ever be living in Arizona.
I think the one I haven’t heard of is right after Gilbert on the list: #95 Hialeah, FL . Though it sounds vagueley familiar (at least “Hialeah,” though not in the context of a city in Florida).
I thought that first part was going to be followed up with “… and even I haven’t heard of it.”
I’ve heard of Hialeah from the movies, I think. Seems to be a big horse-racing center, and whenever you have mobsters going to Miami in the movies, they often seem to end up at the Hialeah track.
#58 - Aurora, Colorado.
Then #71, Henderson, NV
