Largest vessel without need of a Master's license

What is the largest vessel one can operate without a Master’s license (or other license) in the U.S.? By ‘largest’ I mean either length or tonnage.

I’m not sure, but I hear that you oil and master your roommates wood without a license.

Yeahhhnnnn… No. Too much a non sequitur.

(and you forgot the link.)

I can’t answer, but years ago I had a 14-foot outboard runabout. One day took family on a ride on a northern Vermont lake up to Canada. Upon pulling up to the dock, a Canadian Immigration official had me fill out a form.

The first question was: “Name of the Master of this vessel.”

I put in “Commodore KlondikeGeoff” and my chest was puffed out all day. I tried to get my wife and kids to address me thereafter as Master and Commander, to no avail.

Please don’t derail what is probably a serious OP. Thanks.

‘Probably’? :dubious: Hey, the cutting board question was serious too! (I just couldn’t resist the title. )
