Also check out to see what exhibits the Guggenheim Museum in Vegas is showing. We went to see the Art of the Motorcycle exhibit there two or three years ago and it was terrific. They rotate exhibits, so again, check to see if something you want to see is there.
The Carroll Shelby factory, where they build the Shelby One cars, used to give factory tours. I heard they don’t anymore, but hopefully they still let you take a look at the showroom where they have a lot of beautiful vintage vehicles that are part of Shelby’s automotive legacy. It’s located down by the auto racetrack in Vegas. (And if you buy a Shelby One, I hear you get to go over to the speedway to take it for a test drive.)
The Aladdin Hotel has one of the best buffets around, be sure and check it out. One of the greatest variety and best tasting offerings I’ve ever had in Vegas, buffet-wise.
The Rio used to have museum exhibits there from time to time. I saw the Titanic and Russian Treasures traveling exhibitions there. Check and see if they have something there for when you’ll be in Vegas.
Check and see what exhibits the Las Vegas Museum of Art has to offer. We saw a great Dali exhibit there about three years ago. The Las Vegas Natural History Museum isn’t bad either.
Also, in the same building as the Coca-Cola store (where the giant Coke bottle is), is the M and M store. Four stories of M and M related merchandise and chocolate. (MMMM…chocolate.) You used to be able to take a bus from there to tour the Ethel M chocolate factory. If I recall correctly, Ethel M Chocolate factory has a very nice cactus garden there as well.
As long as we’re on the subject of factory tours, there’s also the Kidd’s Marshmallow Factory in Henderson, Nevada…the smell alone is worth showing up for and I’ve gotten chocolate marshmallows in the gift shop. Let me tell you, those things are wonderful in s’mores!
All the factory tours are free, or at least they used to be.
Also, the MGM has a lion exhibit a la the tiger exhibit at the Mirage. And the Flamingo Hilton has a penguin and other exotic birds exhibit there. Both are free.
And there’s a big outlet mall at the end of the strip, near the airport if that’s your cup of tea.
And if you love Egyptian stuff at all, go to the Luxor. The second floor of the pyramid is where the stuff like museums and the IMAX. And the Sphinx out front is pretty cool too.
And Caesar’s Palace offers a free tour of their Magical Empire digs during the day, and at the end of the tour you get a coupon good for a discount on a dinner there. Restrictions apply on the coupon, but the tour gives you a chance to see if the Magical Empire thing is an option you want to pursue. And definitely take in the mall while you’re at Caesar’s too.
And yeah, definitely check out Red Rocks and Hoover Dam while you’re there too!
