Last Man on Earth (tv series)

Something interesting with either everyone leaving Tucson or just Phil (or Phil and Carol) leaving Tuscon (they way it is now) is that they probably won’t end up with more people joining them. Everyone that showed up, showed up specifically because they saw Phil’s signs.

I guess they can still meet new people. People that never saw the signs, people on they’re way to Tucson etc, but they probably won’t be running into them at such an alarming rate.

I’m curious as to whether or not this was all filmed before it started airing or if they were still filming it while it was on. If it was the latter, the changes could have been due to audience (internet) reaction.

Just finished reading through the comments on the season finale and was surprised that no one mentioned how the ending was (taken? borrowed? stolen?) from the Graphic Novel Y The Last Man. Not that I’m complaining, I enjoy both The Last Man On Earth and was a fan of the Graphic Novel, I just found it odd how similarly both used that “shock” ending was.

I’ve really enjoyed this series and hope it returns. I’m not a big fan of a lot of the sitcoms these days. Most are just unfunny (IMO) and don’t give me a reason to tune in every week. This series was unique, from it’s very flawed central character, with his cringe worthy actions, to the selection of other characters who arrived.

I especially love how they ended it. With Carol and Tandy (now Phil again?) on the road this opens up so many storyline possibilities. The show can keep itself fresh nd attract actors and actresses who don’t normally do television to the show, knowing that their part won’t last that long.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I never heard of the novel.

The idea of guest actors and actresses is interesting. That’s something that’s reminiscent of 60’s sitcoms; Gilligan’s Island in particular, which I think this show has parallels to and may have been influenced by (Likely from being seen on TV Land. The writers are probably too young to have seen the original broadcasts of such shows).

Brian K. Vaughan has written many episodes of Lost and was a show runner on Under The Dome.

Anyone else still watching this? I keep hoping for another episode with the ISS guy.

I’m still watching it. I don’t care one way or another about him, but I just wish they would do something with him other than remind us once in a while that he’s still there.

This show has generally done a good job of getting me to forgo my suspension of disbelief, but the “guy stuck in the ISS for a couple of years” really pinged hard on the YEA RIGHT-o-meter.

Has it never occurred to Phil to go to Houston and attempt to find out what happened to his brother?

There’s another thread discussing season 2:
