Last Man on Earth - season 3

So the season premiere was Sunday. I think the season’s off to a a great start. Sure, a few things made no sense whatsoever (why were those guys carrying guns if they weren’t going to shoot anyone? didn’t we already learn that gasoline was about to stop working? what about food?) but it more than made up for it in entertainment value and heart.

(I love that both Jon Hamm and Will Ferrell have now shown up as guest stars only to die immediately.)

I kind of wish they would have stuck with “the last man on Earth” idea a bit longer. Or maybe just have Carol there for a season and then add one more person.

Of the whole cast the only one I like is Gail? The one who is sarcastic and a lush.

I am looking forward to both ladies giving birth simultaneously … because you just know that’s how that ep. will go down.

Clearly the one guy is insanely paranoid, so scouting and going in armed is not terribly surprising for him, and the other guys were probably too scared to gainsay him.

The show is just a retooling of Gilligan’s Island. That’s not an insult. One of my favorite shows.

Jon Hamm seems to be making a mini-career of guest and cameo appearances in sitcoms, but this one definitely tops them all.

I liked how they couldn’t take time to take a picture of him (what, no more Polaroid cameras around?), so they had a sketch done in colored pencils. I wonder which one is the artist? (besides the blue jean artist)

I assume it was Carol who, of course, drew all the pictures in the Masturbatorium.

I liked that January Jones’ character shot the one of the invaders played by Jon Hamm. (Jon Hamm and January Jones played a married couple in Mad Men.)

I thought the sketch looked more like Fred Armisen than Jon Hamm.

Yeah, what other reason could they have had for using Jon Hamm.

Another very entertaining episode. Carol breathlessly reporting on Tandy’s fight with Pat was classic, and I love seeing Lewis’s reactions to Tandy, compared with everyone else’s.

So goodbye Malibu; I wonder where the gang will end up next. Also did anyone else think it was weird that they dragged Cher’s body back to there mansion to bury her with the others instead of just burying her in her own yard?

That was a weird placement for a dugout - the forward visibility was sharply limited by those hedges.

So any guesses as to who or what’s behind the fully light up hotel (or office building?) the gang found? If it’s not Pat it would have to be another survivor, right? Someone has to be manning the generator; unless of course it has solar panels & has just been running on auto-pilot all these years. I’m starting to sense a possible homage to There Will Come Soft Rains.

I laughed when Gail’s self-driving car (a BMW, I think) took off right after she got out of it.

And I thought the building they found at the end was a hospital, but have no particular reason to think so. I will be curious to see how it’s being powered.

Judging from some of the previews, it struck me as possibly a dot-com building, i.e. a self-sustaining uberbuilding-of-the-future designed for hipster programmers and destined for bankruptcy.

I wonder if Melissa was always this crazy or if the apocalypse really drove her off the deep end.

She’s become eccentric, but she doesn’t yet strike me as nearly as much a danger to herself or the group as Tandy.

OMG! Did Gail really just kill herself? The show goes on it’s winter hiatus now so we won’t find out for awhile.

Couldn’t she see the building’s facade windows through the gap? I wondered why she didn’t try shooting them out.

Of course, with all that shooting in a confined space, she’s permanently deaf by now.
