Last night's SNL

Well, it’s after midnight, so the title is somewhat inaccurate. But at any rate, last night Mr. Rilch and I watched SNL, for the first time in ages, because The Rock was on. Was it just that particular episode, or has SNL become very gay recently?

I don’t think it was any happier than it’s been in any other season. You know - some funny sketches, some dull ones - pretty typical, I’d say…

Everybody knows that Steve McGarrett only takes orders from the governor and God - and occassionally even they have trouble.

I think it’s just a reflection of what jokes they can get away with without running afoul of network censors. SNL has always been about pushing the envelope. Remember this is the show that gave us “Bass-O-Matic 76” and “Placenta Helper.”

In general everything has gotten gayer…more gay…festive? because that is far more accpeted than it once was. The Simpsons had a whole episode centered around a gay character played by John Waters and in last night’s episode Bart’s vision of the future had a reference about Ned Flanders loaning him money because he didn’t out Rod and Todd.
