Joe Turkel, Bartender in the ‘The Shining’ and ‘Blade Runner’ Actor, Dies at 94
Joe Turkel, the actor known for his role as the bartender in 1980's The Shining and as a replicant creator in Blade Runner, has died.
Dwayne Hickman has moved on.
Alas, Betty White’s passing takes Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show off the list of shows with one surviving cast member. I’m sure it also eliminates several shows she was in back in the 50’s and 60’s, but I’m not going to verify the mortality of every individual cast member from Life With Elizabeth.
The Great Escape is on now.
Of the top-listed cast, David McCallum (‘Dispersal’), John Leyton (‘Willie “Tunnel King”’), and William Russell (‘Sorren’) are still alive.
To add some praise for the longevity of many of the cast…I realized that both Sally Kellerman and Gary Lockwood are also still alive.
But from the previous pilot, unfortunately Susan Oliver and Jeffrey Hunter died young.
So much for that
Laurel Goodwin died. She was the last remaining cast member of the original Star Trek pilot.
I saw this actress (Judee Morton) in an episode of That Girl a couple of days ago and initially mistook her for Laurel.
sally kellerman died a few weeks ago too
Yes but she was in the second pilot not the first originally unaired one.
No one remains from the pilot.
And, from that second pilot (“Where No Man Has Gone Before”), there are still several actors still with us, including William Shatner, Gary Lockwood, George Takei, and Andrea Dromm (Yeoman Smith).
I had no idea Gary Lockwood was alive.
Neither did I, until I looked it up to make that post. It looks like he largely retired from acting in the late '90s, though he did apparently appear (along with a ton of other Trek alums, and Snoop Dogg) in a parody film, Unbelievable!!!, in 2020.
I always wonder if the guy with the glasses is still alive.

That is a very bizarre sounding movie. How did they get all of those people to be in it. It’s not like they could promise a big pay check.
I know F Troop has only Larry Storch (Corporal Agarn) and James Hampton (Bugler Dobbs) among the living.
I happened to be looking up something else and noticed that James Hampton died in 2021, leaving Larry Storch as the last remaining cast member of F Troop.

Probably had something to do with a Snoop Dogg party…
“Oh, wow. Yeah, that sounds like a great movie! Let’s do it! Can I get another blunt?”
Good Lord. Just reading the character names is good for a laugh.
Joe Turkel are all still kicking.

I had no idea he voiced Phineas J. Whoopee on Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales.
Awww, I was hoping he’d make a century. I liked him a lot.
