OK all you trivia masters, help me to identify a show.
It was probably sometime between 1989 to maybe 1992, HBO broadcast a comedy special. It was a one man show and the set was made up to look like a guys bedroom. The man sang songs, I think played the drums. At one point he played with a toy farm set and made dinosaurs attack the animals. It was almost like a male version of the Judy Miller character that Gilda Radner portrayed on SNL.
I think this came up on the board a few years ago… I may have even been the one to ask. I remembered the special as well. Specifically a song he sang to a girl on her answering machine… just this one line always stayed with me- soemthing like I love you more than more than Bridgette Nielsen’s thighs." as he’s looking at pin up of her on his fridge.
If I remember correctly this was a Canadian production and was actually part of a series of episodes. HBO only aired one as a “special”.
Well, while we’re at it, can I ask another person to be IDed? On a similar show (may have been HBO) I saw a comic who would start out using a puppet (really just his hand in a sock), talking in a high voice. Over the course of his bit, he’d gradually “forget” about the puppet and just be whining neurotically into the mic in his high puppet voice…and then he’d suddenly realize what he was doing, giggle, and “reactivate” the puppet. I think he also discussed going to Disneyland (as a grown man) and getting really upset when he realized that Mickey was actually just a person in a suit.
I loved the way he played a super-neurotic guy. Never did catch his name. Anyone?
I suspect our new poster was replying to the post below, not the original OP, so perhaps the snark was unwarranted.
sumby, welcome to the boards. Please note that the post you are replying to was from 2007, and the poster may not be active any longer, but we appreciate updated information.
It sure does. Cranky wasn’t quite remembering all the aspects properly (the puppet doesn’t come out until fairly late in his set), but had enough of them right that it must be the same guy.
