That’s a shame. I liked Jack Lemmon.
Wow… Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau within such a short time…
He will never be forgotten - to me, he will forever be Professor Fate, who made me laugh so many times.
RIP
What an awful week—Jack Lemmon; my favorite author, Tove Jansson; poor Barbara Eden’s son; French actress Corinne Calvet; and now that dreadful business about Paula Poundstone, which I hope is not true . . .
Somewhere, Bob Hope and Katharine Hepburn are hiding under their beds . . .
What awful business with Paula Poundstone?
Otto Paula was just arrested and charged with ‘lewd acts’ with a female child under 14, and two other charges of neglect/harm to a child. details can be found in the news links in this other thread here
On the OP - sad to see old Jack go. He was a classy guy.
Thing about Jack Lemmon is, they’ve listed the cause of death as “complications” from cancer. Nothing more specific.
Now, I understand those “complications” are probably messy, unpleasant things best left private, but when someone dies of cancer we’re usually told what kind of cancer. Does anyone know?
Dreadful business about Paula Poundstone, to be sure. I wonder what the evidence is? I wonder what evidence they could have, other than testimoney from the children concerned.
Damn. I didn’t even know until I saw this thread.
I loved all those movies with Walter Matthau, but my favorite Jack lemmon role was Ensign Pulver in Mister Roberts.
He’ll certainly be missed.
Someone mentioned Professor Fate - I just happened to have watched “The Great Race” last weekend. Professor Fate and his other role as the brandy-swilling, pug-kissing royal are a treat. The best pie fight ever.
I also have “The Apartment” and “Some Like It Hot” on tape and will now have to watch them again - sort of a Jack Lemmon tribute film festival. “Days of Wine and Roses” is in my cabinet as well but that one cuts too close to home and is very difficult for me to watch. Maybe at some point a little later.
If you haven’t seen him in “Missing” you should try and catch it. Lemmon is perfect in it.
I heard about Jack Lemmon over breakfast this morning. He was one of my all-time favorites. It’s amazing how many good/great movies he was in. I’m gonna miss him.
Wow, this is really, really sad news.
When I saw the thread title, I just thought to myself, “No, not that Jack Lemmon.” (Like there are at least a dozen famous men with the name.)
Everytime I think of him, I think of his stunning performance in Glengarry Glen Ross that made me cry. He was an amazing actor.
