Latest forfeit in pro sports

It was in the AHL which is the top level of minor league hockey.

Assistant coach had a seizure so they declared a forfeit. I guess it’s not a big deal since it’s minor league.

Los Angeles Dodgers — Aug. 10, 1995: The Dodgers gave free baseballs to everyone in attendance, which led to the field being showered in balls during the seventh inning stretch. During the ninth inning fans threw more balls onto the field after what they perceived to be a bad call, and after a ball entered the field during play umpires gave the game to the St. Louis Cardinals. MLB banned throwable objects being part of fan giveaways as a result.

It surprised me when that happened because I thought it was obvious what a bad idea it was to arm the crowd BEFORE the game, and that the proper procedure would be to give out the baseballs to the crowd as they were leaving, not entering, the ballpark. I say that because I went to a Chicago White Sox game in the 1980s that observed that procedure. The giveaway was a baseball-sixed “message cube” (slips of paper stuck together on one side). The White Sox personnel cheerfully distributed the cubes as the crowd left the park and so not one was thrown on the field.

I went to an NHL playoff game where they gave out drink glasses after the game. The visiting fans from Buffalo were ticked their team lost so they smashed glasses in the parking lot.
