Latitude and distance

I’m sorry, but this is extremely mundane and pointless. And yet, I must share.

I was looking at my Location today, which is almost 49° north. I came from L.A., which is approximately 34° north. That’s a difference of 15°. So a straignt line directly north from L.A. to the Canadian border is 900 nm, or 1,035 sm.

Of course, Birch Bay, WA is west of L.A. as well as north. And the roads aren’t straight. To drive here from L.A. is about 1,200 miles.

But 900 miles as the copter pilot flies.

Actually, it is 909 nm.

Actually, I did say “almost” and “approximately”.

Wow. Them roads must be really twisted and windy to if you gotta drive 1200 miles to traverse 900 nanometers.
