laundry: how to brighten mixed white/color clothes

I have a shirt. It is white with both red and blue on it. It is a nice shirt I have worn when I felt patriotic.

Problem: how to launder. Afraid to wash with whites because I didn’t want the red and/or blue to fade on my other whites. Ended up washing with darker clothing.

Now the white is kinda light blue from all the color bleed from other laundry.

QUESTION: is there a way to brighten the white back to white without fading the red and blue on this shirt? It would be nice if I can, because as it is it looks drab and run down.

Similarly, I have a nylon top that is black with a white collar and trim. The white has, of course, absorbed bleed from other clothes, now is gray with a slight pink hue. Any way to fix?

ADDITIONAL Question: I have a new shirt that is red, white, and blue. How should I launder it to prevent color bleed ruining the white?

You could go to a dry cleaner. In the washer if the red and blue bleed on other whites, they’ll bleed into that shirt as well. Probably the best you can do yourself is cold water and non-abrasive detergent. The nylon may be tough though. Have you tried washing it by itself to remove the contaminents?

TRY OXYCLEAN. WITH OXYCLEAN, YOU CAN HAVE CLEAN CRISP SHIRTS IN NO TIME.

JUST SOAK THE SHIRT IN WATER AND MIX OXYCLEAN FOR ONE TO SIX HOURS THEN WASH THE SHIRT IN COLD WATER ON A GENTLE SETTING, PREFERABLY ON ITS OWN AND YOU CAN HAVE CRISP WHITE AND COLORED SHIRTS AGAIN.
At least it works for me.

If you have color bleed, it may be because you’re washing them too warm. I have 100% cotton shirts in mixed colors (white with blacks stripes, white with pale and dark blue stripes, black/pale blue/white stripes) and they haven’t blended yet. I never wash them with bleach or in warm water.

I’ve heard that dry cleaning is harsh on fabrics. Others who have experience with dry cleaning can tell you more.

To be clear, the primary color bleed appears to be from other items, not from the shirt itself. I’m just relaying why I didn’t wash the shirt with whites.

Also, I wash in cold water.

Wash it by itself the first 2-3 times, then put it in with light colors/whites if there’s been no bleeding by itself.

Billy? Is that you? What’s Hell like? Is it really as hot as I’ve heard? When you did the cocaine overdose thing was it like getting really high and then just waking up in hell?

Inquiring minds want to know!!

BTW- I like Clorox II for clothes the OP describes.
