I would’ve had to click on the bait to find out.
I googled around and couldn’t find an answer–what was the rubber band around the knob supposed to accomplish?
I am not sure if this is appropriate in this thread or in the previously mentioned “I wash my clothes on the HD cycle every time” thread, but I have questions:
I was “sold” a new Whirlpool top-of-the-line WiFi-enabled, self-portioning/he-only-soap-dispensing front-loader early last year.* I was told it will portion out the correct amount of soap from the pre-filled drawer reservoir, thus reducing waste and deterioration of the machine.
When you people are talking about using less soap than recommended, that’s not something I can control on my machine, right? I just fill a little thing about once every 5 cycles.
Also, I’m super not happy with the machine. Particularly, heavy-soil items don’t seem to get very clean. For example, we have to wash dog belly bands that get urine soaked. The normal/heavy duty cycle do not get them smelling clean, not even the “sanitize” cycle. I have turned to running 3 cycles on the “quick wash” setting which is over-all the same amount of time as ONE regular cycle. I presume since they run the same amount of time they are more-or-less equal as far as wear and tear…? BTW I have to do this when I wash my sweaty work hats or else they really stink. Normal wash does NOT get the funk out.
Sometimes I’ll kill the cycle in the rinse phase and start the next cycle since there’s no reason to rinse and spin since I’m going to re-wash immediately. This gets all the stink and stains out, whereas the regular/HD/sani cycles do not. (Fun fact: This dumb machine has a “Regular” cycle AND a “Normal” setting. I halfway think they just made up a bunch of these settings…there are 14 total).
We’ve recently bought into the Oxi-Clean “myth” after reading reviews that it really does get whites cleaner. So far, it doesn’t seem to do anything. But we still throw it in with the belly bands, and sometimes I even throw in a little Washing Soda. Am I doing it right?
Finally, we just saw some orange goop in the soap drawer, so I pulled the whole thing out and it was growing an ECOSYSTEM of molds…literally orange slug looking stuff, some green, and a LOT of black. DISGUSTING. How do you prevent this?! Or do I just need to pull that drawer out and hard-sanitize in there every two weeks?
*(I say “sold” because the salesman literally talked us into it by claiming the #1 issue people have with washing machines is using too much soap, and that since this self-dispenses, it will only use the correct amount of soap every time, thus increasing the lifespan. On a separate note, he sold us on the wifi without letting us know the necessary app to control it doesn’t work ((literally, not at all)) so that’s useless, and the major selling point was the widened gap in the door seal so you can clean it easier ((dog hair)) but I digress).
^ And that is why the two scariest words in the English language are “new” and “improved”…
Particularly irritating when coupled with the word “original”.
