Turns out she was having an affair with Clef throughout the heights of the Fugees’ success. He supposedly had quite a manipulative emotional hold on her. ‘Miseducation…’ was largely about their relationship and breakup. Dealing with the emotional fallout of that in the middle of the worldwide fame kinda made her decide to withdraw from the public eye. She’s been getting weirder and weirder ever since.

It sounds like her emotional involvement with Wyclef and breakup left her vulnerable to some shady advisor. She’s definitely got issues that need a real therapist, not some hack guru.
As discussed in the threads about Wesley Snipes, it takes a lot to go to jail over not paying taxes. Typically, it’s not just not paying, but willful efforts to not pay. Snipes went to jail because he fell for some tax protester shit. The IRS has probably had lengthy efforts to get Lauryn Hill to pay up. They save jail time for punishing the deliberate offenders. If she’s a candidate for jail time, she’s trying hard.
