uhh… somethings wrong with my lava lamp, wondering if anyone had any solutions. the 'lava' has seemed to have hardened at the top. it
s only been 15-20 minutes and it doesnt seem to be moving back to the bottom. any suggestions?
many thanks.
Have you had it for very long? The lamps I have do that all the time.
The process mine goes through upon start up is 1). ten-fifteen minutes of blatant unactivity. 2). The top-hardening thing you describe. After it gets hot enough, the lava spikes to the top, appears to harden and stays that way for maybe fifteen minutes, perhaps longer. 3). After that, the lava at the top cools, then floats back down to the bottom, and eventually begins to undulate back to the top like you’d expect.
I’d give yours a while, see if this isn’t the case. If not, there’s usually a number you can call on the box if your lava lamp malfunctions.
Oh, and welcome to the Boards!
thank you.
well, i dont know, ive turned the lava lamp off now. its been about an hour and it should have pretty much cooled off by now. i figured it would probably sink back to the bottom since its cooler. but its still stuck at the top and it doesn
t seem to be moving.
Huh. I’ve only shut it off once or twice when they’re in that…suspended stuck at the top mode. When I’ve done that, the lava’s either stayed at the surface or lopped over after a while, so I don’t know what to tell you there. I’d try heating it up all the way again, and letting it go for a couple hours and see if it works after that. If it doesn’t, I’d see if you could contact the maker. If it’s new, they usually will refund you as long as you haven’t messed about with the bottle cap thing at the top. Hope that works for you.
oh, i dont know who the maker is. my friend gave me the lava lamp last night and it was just wrapped in a bag. so yeah. heh. oh well.
but thanks, i`ll try your advice ;]
This is probably the first thing you checked but I’ll mention it anyway.
I’ve never owned one but do they require a certain wattage bulb? If they use regular household bulbs, could a smaller wattage bulb have been installed that doesn’t give off enough heat? Or a larger wattage and it’s too hot?
