Ok, I admit that I’ve been watching L&O:SVU on USA, so I see lots of episodes out of sequence. Can somebody clue me in on how/why Stabler ended up with the new partner? I know Benson was undercover in the “ecoterrorist” group for a while. Is that when the new gal came in? And what’ with Elliot becoming a blue-collar/t-shirt wearing kinda guy??

Yep, Olivia dropped out of sight to work undercover (while Mariska Hargitay was on maternity leave). Beck was assigned to Stabler even though she doesn’t have the SVU background. You’re right that he usually dresses up more; I was surprised to see the casual clothes but maybe since they knew they would be chasing the guy…? He’s always been portrayed as a working class kind of cop though.
One thing I’ve noticed from watching them on USA is how the dress code has changed over the seasons – everyone used to dress up more. Olivia would wear suits, Fin would wear suits with vests instead of jackets, Elliot would wear the whole suit. Now, it’s more “business casual.”
Not really noteworthy, I guess, just kind of interesting.
I wondered if they were giving Stabler more of a blue-collar sort of look, since Beck (is that her name? the new partner) seems to give off a bit more of a working-class vibe than Olivia did.
