Hee, hee, hee! It makes me giggle too much. “The criminal justice system is the police and the lawyers. These are their stories.” But now it says “the criminal justice system is the police and the crown prosecutors. These are their stories.” Chung, chung! Shot of some guy wearing a white wig, scenes of Jamie Bamber speaking with a reeeeeeally strong accent. Martha Jones from Doctor Who. Actually, I don’t know if I really heard “chung, chung” or I just heard it in my head.
I’m not sure I can watch it without giggling too much.
Finished watching it. I stopped giggling. It’s a decent drama. I like the prosecutor guy. But those wigs…
Not sure I’ll keep watching it. I didn’t watch the original much. But if you like cop/lawyer dramas, it’s fine. The only reason I would keep watching is it’s Brit, which is a dish I don’t get enough of.
In the UK we don’t have the “The criminal justice system is the police and the lawyers. These are their stories.” preamble on the imported US shows. For us Brits the beginning of the programs is the familiar “chung, chung!” sound.
I gave just watched the original US episode “Cradle to Grave”. Yup, the only changes between it and the UK version “Care” script wise is because the different geographical locations demand it. I wonder why the change in the episode name then since the UK version used the same script?
The differences cast wise between the two version is most apparent. The original US show had all 6 main characters being male while the UK one has the more modern 4 male/ 2 female line-up. It doesn’t seen right somehow not having Lennie Briscoe being one of the detectives. I can live without a pretty female ADA but without Lennie Briscoe it doesn’t feel like a real L&O episode.
The current L&O series shown in the Britain is the first one with Briscoes replacement, Joe Fontana. (series 15)
It was reported in the UK press in '06 that there were moves to get rid of the wigs and gowns in “civil, commercial cases and family cases — although kept in the criminal courts”: Judges to hang up gowns and wigs.
For those of you in the US who have seen it, how are you watching it? Please, please, please. If you are watching it through less than legal means, you don’t need to answer. But if there is a legal way I can watch it in the US, please tell me how.
In your opinion, maybe. According to the BBC, producer Dick Wolf has high ambitions. He’d like to make another spinoff set in Cairo. He also believes Law and Order: UK would do well enough to air in America on Saturday nights, and if not on NBC, then [IMO] USA would be a strong possibility, as new episodes of Law and Order: CI premiere there. [/IMO] Wolf also would like to see a crossover episode of the two casts.
