Law & Order

No, no. Nothing as mundane as moral or legal issues here folks… I’m talking serious business! Any other hard-core L & O fans here? I used to bartend so I loved A & E having the four episodes a day. If I worked day bar I could watch the 7pm and 11pm episodes and if I worked nights I could catch the 1pm and 3am shows. Talk about a junkie. Seen all of the first 3 season episodes at least 2 or 3 times, and can give the entire plot line after the first 2 minutes. And the funny thing is I really don’t watch anything else on T.V. except a little HBO (The Corner, Oz, and Dennis Miller). I guess I was just wondering if anyone else is this hung up on the show or if I’m a freak?

I’m not that hung up on the show, but that’s mostly due to having to work. And not being as interested in watching an episode when I’ve already seen in three or four times.

But I still consider it the best thing on TV, and usually make the time to catch the 7 pm episode if it’s not one I’ve seen before.

It’s a damned good show, and one of the few I actually make a point of regularly watching.

I’m not that hard core a fan but I do enjoy it lots. I watch it whenever I remember it’s on and I am home and not busy elsewhere. I also like watching the new Special Victims Unit.

I also heard that one of the guys from the original was running for Mayor or something like that somewhere in Nova Scotia where he moved. (I can’t remember who or where because its been awhile since I heard it but I do remember one was doing that cuz I have relatives back in NS and we get all sorts of news that way)

I didn’t get into the show until it started playing on A&E. Then it became my officium dei. I watched it every freaking night. Now, though, I’ve pretty much seen every episode A&E shows repeatedly. I’ve cooled off on it.

Sky 1 showed all the episodes nightly . I loved it . Sam Waterstone is sheer class and Cary Lowell just makes me melt .

Man, I was soooo into L&O when it started rerunning on A&E. Stone was the best part of the show for me, and when Moriarty left, it was down hill as far as I’m concerned. When L&O started to really pick up steam ratings wise, the stories became more and more “torn from today’s headlines!!!” and that kinda turned me off. Special Victims Unit is good, but I only catch it occasionally.

yes, Moriarty has moved to Canada and has started his own rather right-wing political party, the Republican Party of Canada (amongst other goals, he wnats to abolish the monarchy - if he likes republics so much, why did he leave the U.S??)

I read an interview with him, from a link someone posted on a SDMB thread a few months ago - he sounded like he was big on conspiracy theories/resurgence of communism/New World Order stuff

As Johnny Angel mentioned, I too, didn’t get hooked on Law & Order until A&E started broadcasting the show, but whoa, I made up for lost time!

I’m not that crazy about the Special Victims Unit though. The guy is pretty good, but the woman? She is too hardened at times and then acts shocked at other times. Her performance isn’t believable to me. They also seem to go out of their way to be as gross as possible.

There was a neat thread awhile back, who were the best in their jobs. It was fun putting Logan back where he belonged!

Yeah, Moriarty, bless his soul, might just be a little, well, you know, potty. I think he thinks Janet Reno was trying to hit on him, or something like that.

Anti - THANK YOU! I hate the woman on SVU! Ialso hate that Cassidy left. Hmpf.

As for the original…have liked it for a while. Started watching it after the first crossover they did with Homicide, which I loved. Discovered L&O was cool too, so I started watching. I’m not a rabid fan, but I do really enjoy it, and have managed to hook my roomie on it. (Hooked her on Homicide too…I’m 2 for 2 so far.) We usually watch the eps at 7&11, and she tapes the 1pm ep.

And besides…Chris Noth is SUCH a hottie. drool

Law and Order fanatic, checking in!

Remember last Labor Day, when they had the Law and Order marathon on A&E? I made it to the finish line! (OK, I felt rather pathetic afterward.)

Carrie Lowell … Angie Harmon … Mmmmmm…

Procutes, you should dig up my old MPSIMS thread debating what would comprise the all-time L&O cast. (I’m too lazy)

I might have to do that Milo… I definitely believe that Chris Noth was the best! That two hour “Special” they had on a while back where Logan was trying to get back to Manhattan was great, but I couldn’t believe that Profacchi (sp?) ended up being dirty. I mean he was one of the only characters who had been on from the start. I think Schiff is the only origional character left.
And I totally agree about SVU not being nearly as good. Maybe I’m just pissed that they seem to be trying to capitalize on the origional show’s recent popularity by throwing out a substandard show and assuming that all the fans’ will just watch 'cuz it it related to L&O.
I’d probably never end up watching most of them but I would love to get the entire collection of L&O on tape. Ten plus years would cost a fortune though…

Another fan checking in here. Mrs. Trion and I watch the 7:00 pm A&E episode almost every night. I’m probably the only fan whose favorite character is Adam Schiff.

I love Law and Order. It, The Simpsons, and Futurama are the only shows I watch anymore. Plus, I have the biggest crush on the guy lawyer.

Trion: I like Adam Schiff a lot myself but for God’s sake what does he do. He usually just sits there being all constipated and grumpy. Except for the one when he took the the Governor of New York to court 'cuz he (the gov.) took over prosecution of one of Schiff’s cases. Boy, he shined in that one!

Procrutes - Yea, that was a hell of an episode. One of my favorites.

Yes, Adam does give off that “constipated and grumpy” vibe a lot. My brother and I had a little joke when we started watching.

Jack: This is great. We’ve got fingerprints on the murder weapon, five reliable eye-witnesses, DNA residue in the suspect’s apartment, a solid motive and a signed confession.

Adam: No jury will ever buy it.

{big joke - ha ha}

As for what he really does - He’s the Distric Attorney for God’s sake. He’ll often redirect the case against the suspect or give the Assistant DAs a new perspective on where to look for the truth. Lt. Anita Van Buren does much the same with the cops. If you pay attention you can see them both suggest what their people should do next.

Yeah, you’re right Trion. Both of them seems to point their respective “teams” in the right direction. I have to admit I like the chemistry between Lenny and Anita. They seem to fit really well together, like people who have really worked together for a long time. Oh, DUH! I guess they really have huh? :::D’oh:::

The Mrs. has been a huge fan of L&O sincce day one. IN fact, she can tell you the plot (and outcome) of any given episode, just from viewing the pre-opening credit scene. Well, we all need a talent.

ohhhhhh, I just knew I liked you Falcon!! Such excellent taste in men!

Procrutes, I’m happy dancing!! In the thread that Milo was referring to, I said EXACTLY the same thing. I could never buy that Provaci went bad!

Regarding the lady on L & O: SVU, and her bad character development; she is the daughter of Jayne Mansfield. Maybe her acting is uneven because she sometimes loses her head.<<<<ducking>>>> (VERRRRY bad, obscure reference, I apologize.)

Seriously, though. I was jazzed when SVU was first announced, bacuse my favorite character, from my favorite drama, Homicide, was supposed to star in it. But Munch just seems to be there for comic relief. On Homiced, he had a life, emotions, and deep personal beliefs. On SVU, he just throws out the occasional, lamely funny non-PC remark. Richard Belzer, where are you?
