He died young at 42. He died before Deer Hunter was released. And all of those pictures were nominated for best picture Oscar.

Best Supporting Actor… There’s a good documentary on him. I think it is entitled, “I Knew It Was You”
Ward Bond is in more of the AFI top 100 movies than any other actor.
Denzell Washington has made so many good movies that my favorites (Inside Man and Deja Vu) don’t even make his “Top” lists.
Robert de Niro is another top contender not yet mentioned.
Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt, Russell Crowe, Ray Milland are possible also-rans.
Jack Nicholson has already been mentioned. But he should be at the top of the list!
