league bowling card games

I’m trying to come up with a new game to play during bowling besides poker. (1 card per mark, best poker hand wins) I’d like to come up with something that uses the UNO deck of cards. Anyone have any suggestions or games you play?

Not to be snarky about it, but if you’ve got an UNO deck, what’s wrong with playing UNO?

The question, without being snarky, is how to incorporate UNO into a game of bowling. Naturally, the better you do, the more marks you get, the more cards you get to better your hand of poker and win the 5 buckaroos. So how can I apply that to my UNO cards?

Oh, gotcha. I didn’t realize you the way you were using “mark.” (For the bowling-uninitiated, a “mark” is a strike or spare frame.)

You could always try this: each person starts with 11 UNO cards dealt face-down. For every mark made, each bowler discards one card sight unseen. At the end of the game, the player with the fewest marks (and hence the most cards) leads off a regular game of UNO. It would take a little longer than the poker game, for sure, but depending on your fellow bowlers’ skill, there should be at least one player with just a few cards to start with. Since the object of UNO, of course, is to get rid of all your cards, the player with the most marks and thus fewest cards would have a distinct advantage.

KF, how does the marks system work? Two cards for a strike (/ + \ = X), one card for a spare (/), and no cards for 9 or fewer pins?

There really isn’t time to hold an UNO game inbetween bowling games. At most there’s 4-5 minutes while the final scores are checked.

King Friday, you mat just want to stick with the card game as is. During my league there are a few things going on:

• A league poker game but cards are only awarded for strikes.

• A league over-average pot. Highest over average wins the pot for each game (only those that enter are eligible to win)

• A small “moving pot” on our team. The pot starts with the leadoff bowler and he keeps it until he misses a mark. At that point he passes it to the next bowler and so on. Person with the pot at the end of the night keeps it.

I think you’ll be hard-pressed trying to work an UNO deck into some kind of simple bowling game.

Well, on my husband’s team they played Poker with girlie cards. Nude girlie cards. And if you got one where the girl was, well, in a certain position, you got to draw a second card.

But I don’t think that’s what you are asking.
