I was rereading the first volume of the series yesterday and the story starts out with Mina Murray having already recruited Captain Nemo. Was it ever revealed - or even mentioned - anywhere else in the series how she accomplished this?
No. I think Bond recruited him and the scene on the dock at Wapping was right before her first (off-panel) meeting with him. Nemo was recruited before Murray.
I also have a question about LOEG: Did Nemo get paid the same as everybody else? He brought a lot more to the table, like the Nautilus and its crew, which can’t be cheap…
I don’t have the book in front of me. But when Bond was talking to Murray didn’t he refer to Nemo as “your first recruit”?
That doesn’t necessarily mean she recruited him. Someone might refer to the privates under a drill sergeants tutelage as “his recruits,” but that doesn’t mean he personally went around and talked them into singing up.
