Leah Remini goes sane; Scientologists upset

Yeah, but isn’t psychological therapy something that’s pretty individualized based on problem, history, situation, etc.? How much can you really say that anything has “no rational basis” for working?

And placebos in psychology aren’t as simple as a sugar pill. I can’t imagine how you’d design something like that (then again, I’m not a psychologist).

I saw one in downtown Madrid last month and almost fell on my ass from the surprise. They used to be classified as a dangerous cult. The bottom floor looked like an Apple store for psychoillogical tests, only with less people (thank Cibeles).

How do you know it was Scientologists? It would have been a good idea for a domain name squatter as well. The whois information just shows DomainsByProxy.

You’re off-topic in this thread, despite what I said in my earlier mod note. Please take this discussion elsewhere – probably IMHO.

For what it’s worth, I have no problem with the thread turning into a general discussion of Scientology.

I had never heard of Leah Remini either.

Maybe now she’ll be a Celebrity.

Her main claim to fame is The King of Queens. Maybe not a show you watched but it was on the air for nine seasons. She also had a talk show for a year.

She was also Zach’s beach resort girlfriend on Saved by the Bell.

But I do – this is Cafe Society, not GQ, GD, IMHO, or the Pit.

If you want a general discussion, pls. start it elsewhere.

Thanks,

Why not just move the thread then? I’m not sure how we can discuss Leah leaving Scientology without discussing Scientology. It’s not like we were discussing Scientology in and of itself. We were discussing Leah’s choice to leave the organization while still appreciating some of it’s beliefs. It is impossible to discuss that without getting into the plausibility of that. It’s like starting a thread about Richard Gere’s Buddhism without being able to talk about whether his sort of practice counts as real Buddhism.

Heck ya he does.

Damn, I remember that.

One of the big Scientology headquarters is in Clearwater, FL.

This is a really good post. My first instinct is to think of CoS as a cult. But, you’re right, the content isn’t the same as the organization’s action. I didn’t see it that way, until reading this. Thanks for being smart.

One unfortunate (or fortunate if you are a Scientologist) thing about this is the fact that Leah Remini most likely has already hit the high point of her career. After co-starring on a hit show it is unlikely she will strike gold again. Therefore, if her career takes the most likely route, the CoS will be able to claim to their followers that they were the reason for her lack of success.

They’re probably just upset because they’re not getting her money any more.

There’s an organization called the Cult Awareness Network that was kidnapped, for want of a better term, by Scientology.

One of? It’s THE Scientology headquarters.

The funny thing is, she was one of the celebs that came on the BBC Panorama episode about Scientology with John Sweeney. I seem to recall she was pretty haughty about Scientology, etc.

I saw a car with a Scientology symbol on the back today in traffic. Never seen that before!

How is the flat bread different from the thin crust pizza? Seems like the same thing to me.

Sampiro, this thread is about Leah Remini, not Jeffery Tambor. Please stay on topic. Do not deviate from the topic. Eyes front! This goes for you too, Drunky Smurf. The SDMB is serious buisness.

Well, thin crust pizza is a mainstream religion… flat bread was just made up by some science fiction writer. But it seems to be popular among celebrities.

Okay, I have no idea how that happened but I obviously posted in the wrong thread.
