(Least) Favorite Movie Mistakes

That burning cars always explode.

They don’t. They burn. That’s why they call them that.

In addition to the monumental plot hole in Jaws where they should have takenHooper’s boat along with Quint’s (don’t even get me started, oh too late, I already started over in Cafe Society), the trees on the beach have leaves and don’t have leaves in alternating shots. Also, when Brody’s chumming for the shark he has an unlit cigarette in his mouth. He backs into the cabin and suddenly the cigarette is lit.

Where Eagles Dare, WW2 epic starring Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton. In the pivotal scene where the commandoes ride the cable car to the mountain fortress, it’s clear that it isn’t Clint and Dick on the car, but their stunt doubles. You also have to wonder why no one in the fortress operating the cable car can see them, since they would be easily visible. Also, after Clint and Dick overpower some Nazis in a car, they jump out of the car and watch it drive over a cliff. Halfway down, the car explodes for no reason.

Will this thread be moved to Cafe Society?

You brought this thread back from the dead for this?

And one more “good idea, bad location”:

A Few Good Men - Apparently, Hollywood “can’t handle the truth” because USNB Guantanamo Bay is effectively a desert environment - coral dust, iguanas, cactus and everything. I don’t recall seeing any patio with neat rows of palm trees anywhere on the base - or maybe after spending so much time there I just forgot it was paradise? Yeah, that’s the ticket.

In 3000 Miles to Graceland they are walking underneath canopy of oldtown vegas then immediatly walk into the riviera(sp) which is miles away. They must have have been exhausted by the time they entered the casino.

In Jurassic Park, in the raptor-hatching scene, the robot gripper is on the hatching egg. Switch angles and: it’s gone!

I think this must be the same Three Stooges video as the one I have seen. As I recall there were some other glaring mistakes as well.

I distinctly recall that at one point, during a minor disagreement, one Stooge pokes another very hard in the eyes with two fingers (one for each eye). Not only does the second Stooge not bleed or lose his sight even temporarily, but a loud honking noise appears to by caused by this injury. I have spoken with several doctors and all of them have assured me that this cannot actually happen. A moan from the victim is the loudest noise that could be expected.

I considered that this might be a sound-track error.

However, later in the film, at a tense moment the third Stooge hits the second (I think), on the head with a large hammer. Again, it is a very hearty blow, but the second Stooge not only manages to retain consciousness, but is able to make a loud “PLOK” sound, followed by the noise of birds twittering.

Subsequently the second Stooge grasps the hammer from his friend and raises it to return the blow.

Alas, the most irritable Stooge has entered the room behind him, and on its backward swing the hammer catches him (irritable Stooge) with a ferocious blow, causing a sound similar to a loud dinner gong. Again, the stooge in question appears to suffer no ill effects, apart from increased annoyance.

I can think of no logical explanation for these inappropriate noises.

Actually, I have documented about eighty-seven such examples of mistakes in this video, so you might want to get comfortable.

Redboss

In great outdoors there is a scene where a bear knocks down the door to the cabin with John Candy underneath it. If you look at the bottom of the screen you can see the trainers stick guiding the bear.

Also,

In army of darkness, Ash NEVER reloads his “boomstick” but fires enough shots to take out a small country. Also before he gets thrown into the pit he is wearing boots, in the pit he is wearing sneakers, then boots again when he gets out. There are about 100 mistakes in this movie but its still one of my favorites.

I don’t recall Moe, Larry, or Curly–or anyone else–using a hammer in Horses’ Collars, made in 1935 and set out West. There is a gunfight, an awkward dance, and a three-cornered fight between Curly, Decker, and Lobo at the end, when Curly, maddened by the sight of a mouse, even socks Moe and Larry (but not Nell, fortunately). They all pass out at the end because of a whiff of Curly’s Limburger cheese.

:exasperated sigh:

Redboss, it’s one thing to notice a continuity error as dougie-monty did. It’s another to complain about the cartoonish violence.

It’s like watching Alice in Wonderland and pointing out that rabbits don’t talk, wear clothes or own pocket watches.

In Mission: Impossible 2, the climactic motorcycle chase/duel moves from paved roads to sand and dirt.

At the same time, the tires on both bikes magically change from streets to off-road knobbies. It wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the close-ups on the tires before and after.

Hmmm, I believe you’re right, reg. I didn’t pick up on it at first, but after looking at it once more, it really wasn’t there!!!

Joke, Joyce.
