Yep - just went through this with my mom. She filled out one piece of paper and all we had to do was call a number - and they picked up the body. Cost us nothing and we had the option of getting an urn back with ashes (they called a few days later and asked me what I wanted). I had the impression that the urn/cremation option was free - but not sure. I believe they do experiments/research/whatever for up to a year - and then it is returned if you want. We didn’t choose that option.
I can’t stress enough how easy this was. I could tell it made some people uncomfortable though. Kind of funny how they reacted - you could see the wheels turning, but they didn’t want to say anything as they thought it would offend me (it wouldn’t).
Also most cities and counties don’t have actual Potters Fields, they might have burial assistance that is enormously hard to get. Checking into it for the county I used to live in one requirement is that the person died at home.
