We are traveling out of the country for probably 6 weeks and leaving our car. The climate here is pretty rough this time of year–well over 100F every day. The car will be parked outdoors (although under a canopy, so it will be in the shade). It is a new (16000km) Nissan Murano. What do we need to do to make sure it is drivable/not damaged when we return?
6 weeks isnt that long. Id be a little worried about battery drain so I would unplug one of the leads from the battery. If your stereo has some kind of anti-theft code, its good to know this before the unplug.
Maybe overinflate the tires by a few PSI in case there’s some leakage while its sitting there. Maybe even getting an oil change a little before your trip so its not soaking in old dirty oil, but that’s pretty optional.
Full gas tank (to avoid condensation) and maybe some gas stabilizer, but as said, 6 weeks isn’t really very long.
My husband and I leave one of our cars on a battery charger all winter (under a car cover) and it’s in perfect shape after 12 long, cold winters.
