I was a kid when “erasable” pens were, briefly, popular. My teacher told us she wanted us to use them. The ink was erasable because it was wet and goopy and took a while to dry. Pretty soon, my teacher asked me not to use erasable pens anymore.
Hubby Library1900 is a lefty. I play French horn, which is a (the?) lefty instrument. I’m really a righty, though.
This is the most sinister thread I’ve ever read.
Yup. Full time lefty here, but my daughter, like OneCentStamp is a lefty sitting down and a righty standing up, a status they share with the late President Gerald Ford.
As a child I injured my left arm. While my are was in a sling, I had a terrible speech stutter which vanished when I got the use of my arm back. There was a chance I could have lost my arm. Sure glad that didn’t happen.
I feel that ink-smeared left hand thing, and I still hate the memory of those smeary erase-able pens. I can write right-handed legibly, but it sets my teeth on edge and I’m slower at it.
Anyone else try to sit on the left corner of the table so you don’t bump elbows with your right handed tablemates at restaurants? I can eat right-handed if I have to, but again it just feels weird.
Meeeee! I’m a lefty. My father is a strong lefty and my grandmother (his mother) was a so lefty as to be incapable of doing anything with her right hand lefty. It seems the breed is dying out in my family though because I gave birth to two righties. I feel such a failure.:smack:
My father and sister are lefties. My Mom and I are righties. When we go out to dinner, Mom and I sit on one side of the table, Dad and Sis sit on the other…specifically because of this.
I’m a righty but I have two lefty children so I was forced to become at least a little ambidextrous so I could teach them to do things like tie their shoes, cut with a knife, write and the true sign of my dedication - crochet and knit.
Like Digital, when the 4 of us go out to eat we sit with righty’s on one side, lefty’s on the other for elbow bumping avoidance. Round tables are evil for avoiding handedness collisions.
Dyslexics Unite! You have nothing to lose but your choose!
My mother is one of three children and is the only lefty.
I am one of three children and am the only lefty.
My youngest son is one of three children and is the only lefty.
I am sensing a pattern here.
I am a lefty. When I was young, my Mom would buy me notebooks for lefties, and one time bought me left handed scissors. I lost the scissors. To this day, I cannot use scissors with my left hand, and can only use them with my right hand. Very messy.
I wanted to learn how to crochet when I was younger, but no one knew how to teach me left handed. I tried the mirror trick, but did not work.
When I was in band class in the 6th grade, I had to learn the clarinet. I wanted to learn the violin, but because I was left handed, the instructor did not know how to teach me.
Potato peelers are the worse. I could never use the old peelers that were for right handed people, and by the time they made them that could be used by both hands, I could not even use them.
No crocheting, no violin or guitar playing, and no potato peelers. Sad but true.
I’m a leftie sympathizer. Can I come sit with you guys?
Add me to the list of lefties, although i guess its fairly obvious if you check out my name.
I had a teacher who tried to force me to write with the right (wrong) hand, but she finally gave up after months of illegible assignments. I did have to learn to use some power tools with my right hand, as they can be a bit dangerous if operated left handed.
It took a thread on handedness to finally get me to write my first message on the dope.
Lefty through and through!
No fakes here
Except for a few annoying tools, I’m a lefty. Scissors (stupid blunt left handed scissors) for example. One thing that I do right handed, but consider it an asset for a lefty, is use a righthanded mouse. That leaves my left hand open to write or type with.
Lefty here. Cabin_Fever, most of us are ambidextrous, whether by nature or nurture.
I eat, and write left. I iron and throw right. Most things just depend on the situation.
When I read your, “Lefties Unite!” I was reminded on a bit of graffito on a laundry cart in a hospital. It read, “Dyslexics Untie!” It took me weeks or reading it every day to finally get it. I have ADHD, but I guess I’m dyslexic too!
I am a leftie and proud of it! In fact, I’m the only leftie in a family of righties. That just makes me smug and superior.
\o
Hah, we’ve smoked you out!
When did schools stop trying to force lefties to use their right hand? I started school in 1978 and was always allowed to be a leftie.
