Lefties Unite!

I, sinistral.

My father was born lefty, but back in his day that wasn’t “correct” so he ended up switching sides

A good friend of mine suffered a serious injury to his right arm and ended up using his left for a month or so. He was much more sympathetic to my plight after that… heh!

I am a lefty child of 2 righties. 2 of us out of 6 kids. And I married a lefty.

Who else had to wedge their hand in between rings in three ring binders? And, death to those little desks!! They were all the rage in my high school, and college. In an anthropology class of 80 or so, the three lefties would race each other to get to the single left handed desk. The only time I ever saw one.

When I was a kid, I really wanted to learn to crochet, but my mom couldn’t teach me because my left handedness confused her. When I started learning the guitar, I was told I was actually easier to teach, because we could sit facing each other and it was like looking in a mirror.

Oh god… I completely forgot about those desks. We had full-size desks in high school, but college was eaten alive by the seats with the glorified armrest on the right side. Left handed ones were rare.

I never saw a single left-handed one in high school or college. I assumed they didn’t exist at all.

SO DID I!!! They really were a rare animal in the lec halls at Ball State! Out of a group of 100 or 200 there might have been five possible lefty desks in each hall. If you wanted a lefty you had to get to your room before the previous lecture ended!!

One of several things I tried to learn but gave up after being forced to do rightie since I was officially one was play guitar. The official lefty was allowed to play it turned :frowning:

The list also includes tennis and sewing. One whole year that Mother Garcia and I would much rather not have suffered, and at least she’s one of those teachers who knows and appreciated the difference between “can’t do it” and “isn’t trying” - when we got it as an option several courses later and I begged out, she was quite quick to inform the teacher that yes, any of the other choices was probably a better one. The one time I went to an archery class, the teacher was wary of my assertion that “for sports I’m a lefty” since I’d signed with my right, but he ran some checks and said “you’re right, you’re a lefty - hey guys, anybody brought a lefty glove?”

I’ve signed up for some archery lessons and one of the things I liked about the place I chose is that their intro classes include “all necessary materials, for right and left-handed archers”.
