Legal actions taken in reponse to Uvalde School shootings

From this link:

Attorney " Henry is now exploring all available legal avenues against all responsible parties for possible constitutional rights violations, gun law violations, and violations of laws, policies, and procedures pertaining to school safety."

The object of this thread is to comment on, and clarify, the legal paths that will be followed regarding parties and violations. Hopefully those steeped in legal knowledge will participate.

Parents and school staffer start action against manufacturer

Uvalde records may be hidden by legal loophole

Have the victims of the Waukesha Christmas parade massacre sued the auto maker?

It’s the evil murderer, not the tool.

Moderating:

Please do not derail this thread, the stated purpose of which has been made clear. It is not to discuss what you consider to be analogous “weapons” and “victims.”

You have a well documented history of doing this. I’m not warning you this time, but if you do it again, I will.

Thanks.

Legal action, reported in the media, flat lined after the two or three initial filings. That’s reasonable since those cases are very long hauls. But now there is growing local unrest over the enormity of the event and the lack of any action regarding it. The leaked video has stimulated interest and may attract some legal talent with a dislocating strategy.

Aside from the gun manufacturer who has any money to pay off any judgements? I assume the town and school district will end up bankrupt if it is not already. Can the state be sued with any reasonable expectation of winning the case? I have a feeling they’re protected but possibly they would spring to fund some kind of payments to victims and families.

This sounds like it’s a lawsuit against the manufacturers that will become highly politicized and by the time it goes to court, if it does, the broader outrage of this incident across the state and country will have faded considerably.

They have insurance, but no way would it be sufficient. But, you really can’t sue the police in this situations. (Successfully). Not sure if there’s a claim against the school district. Not one that seems likely to me anyway.

I believe the existing cases are against the weapon manufacturer. That’s where the money is. But, the city, police and school system are probably insured. An enterprising lawyer might figure a way to mine that source.

Perhaps the report will aid the civil suits…

Looks like this will continue for years:

Information Release

Pete Arredondo was indicted by a grand jury on 10 counts of felony child endangerment/abandonment and briefly booked into the county jail before he was released on bond, Uvalde Sheriff Ruben Nolasco told The Associated Press in a text message Thursday night.

The Uvalde Leader-News and the San Antonio Express-News reported that former school officer Adrian Gonzales also was indicted on multiple similar charges. The Uvalde Leader-News reported that District Attorney Christina Mitchell confirmed the indictment.

Successful first step

Would it kill you to summarize what you’re linking to?

The city of Uvalde and its insurer have agreed to pay 19 families $2million dollars. As part of the settlement the city also agreed to improve officer training and school security.

The $27 billion class action against Texas DPS is still active. Details

2 mil$ between 19 of them?

Or 2mil$ each?

I believe the articles state $2mil total.
