I had an ear ache yesterday and the doctor prescibed Tylenol 3 ( with codene) for the pain (whoohoo). After I got it filled I got to wondering just who puts the pure narcotics in all those schedule A drugs that we get at the pharmacy? Who is in charge of the machines that mixed the codene into my Tylenol? At somewhere along the line that codene has to be stored, pure and unadulterated.
I am aware that this takes place at pharmaceutical companies like Fizer by chemists but it occured to me that at some point in time those narcotics must be stored in a huge quanity somewhere. And it also occured to me that once the formula is set in the plant then the rest probably wouldn’t require chemists to just mix it together.
Even if machines (robots) put the small amounts of narcotics into the pill on an assembly line, the drugs must still be stored in a large quanity in order to make so many prescriptions taken by so many americans and other people around the world everyday. I guess it seemed a provacative question to me to think of all those pure drugs stored somewhere and who might be in charge of them and what kind of security might be involved.
It also occured to me that I may just be having a flashback from the late 60’s.
Yours truly,
aha
