I have a question for the legal eagles here.
On of the Vice Presidents at my company was recently fired. Though not working for us as an attorney, she did have a law license and did legal work on the side.
She has informed us that she has some of the paperwork for her outside clients in her office, and she is demanding that no one goes in there without her being present, as going though her files could violate attorney/client privilege.
It does appear that the president was aware of her outside activities and allowed her to receive mail here at the office for her outside work.
My question is, can we go in her office and clean it out on our own, or would she have a case against us if we did? I would think that we have an interest in protecting our own files, and therefore we would have to have someone in with her to verify what is ours and what is hers. Given this, the attorney/client privilege would be violated, anyway. Any thoughts?
