Portland and South Portland, Maine have voted in recent years to legalize marihuana. Did these votes have any real effect or were they, as I expect, just symbolic?

“Largely symbolic.” The police say they will enforce federal/state law. It is decriminalized in Maine.

Pretty much just means that the local cops won’t waste their time with it. Still illegal under state law.
Now, now. It was spelled “marihuana” in the puzzling pamphlet my school handed out in 1970.
I think mine (80’s) used “reefer.”
I like to tease my gf by using different, mostly archaic terms from time to time. “Tea” and “boo” are two of my favorites.
Last I checked it was spelled “marihuana” in the Federal Aviation Regulations, which is updated every year.
I do the same to my wife. When I need a haircut, I go to the tonsorial, and when I need a prescription refill I go to the apothecary.
