This is legal in Florida already!!!
Though, not too many people take advantage of it by walking around with a broad sword sheathed on their back. But they could if they wanted. Are you sure it is not legal where you are? You may be suprised…
Gun License? Do you refer to a “Concealed Carry Permit”, or a Handgun Purchase Permit? Guns, or handgun?
I don’t mean to be too particular, but here in MN you don’t need to have training to buy a gun (rifle, shotgun, handgun, whatever), just as you don’t need training to buy a car or a motorcycle. You do need to apply for a permit to purchase a handgun, and you must take training courses as part of the qualification process for a concealed carry permit.
Regardless, for their own safety and that of others, gun owning law abiding citizens should feel obligated to educate themselves in the proper handling and use of their firearms.
Thanks, Hibbons. I did a search on http://www.metacrawler.com using the terms “handgun purchase permit” and “concealed carry permit” and found a lot of things that frighten me and even moreso confirm my conviction to never own a gun. Certain states require you to show proof that you’ve taken a gun safety course before you can get a permit to carry a concealed weapon or a handgun. See:
http://www.courtbar.org/gun.html
http://www.usit.net/hp/guncraft/carrytn.html
There was also reference to the fact that some state legislatures, like in Texas, are passing legislation to ease up on the requirements that people take a gun safety course in order to be eligible for hangun or concealed weapon permit. Granted this article is dated 1997, but the fact that it was even happening then is scary.
See: http://www.lubbockonline.com/news/052897/senate.htm
But the site that I found most compelling was the following:
Violence&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ecphv%2Eorg&frameid=1&providerid=0&uid=10236060
This is by The Center to Prevent Hangun Violence. On it they list all sorts of information from statistics about how stringent gun laws have worked to decrease gun violence and stories about how people who qualified (e.g. showed proof of having taken gun safety courses among other things) for permits to carry handguns or to have concealed weapons still used guns irresponsibly. [shudder]
I know my search is not exhaustive and that I’ve barely touched the tip of the iceberg on this, but I know a little more than I did.
