Legend of the $10 Swiss Army Knife

Long ago, a young man searched for his first weapon. Like a typical lad of his era, he sought a blade of colossal size and power. However, his wise father, who would carry the burden of the bill, reccomended instead a $10 swiss army knife. The young adventurer begrudgingly accepted, but in time came to love the magical blade of many uses.

Ok,enough randomness, heres the actual point of this. Some years ago (2 or 3) I bought a swiss army knife for $10 at sports authority. However, this wasn’t the ‘weak’ knife with just a blade and screwdriver. It was a bigger one with sciccors (sorry,I’m an engineer I’m not famous for my grammar or spelling), screwdriver, cork screw, knife, tooth pick, and other random tools (not the suepr fat,the one thats a bit smaller). Anyway, the sciccors have since broke and I long ago lost the tweezers, so I’m looking for a new one. It has come to my attention that there are actually two manufacturers of said knives and all I can find are the more expensive brand whose name starts with V. They are selling the same knife for $30. I have seen them at sports authority, outdoor world, sunny surplus, and target. Is there naywhere other than onlnie that I can find knives but the other (cheaper) company?

The other company that makes “official” Swiss Army Knives is Wenger, though I don’t know how their prices compare to Victorinox’s.

Victorinox and Wenger are the only two companies allowed to call their knives Swiss Army. They both make excellent knives, I don’t believe there is much of a price differential.

Plenty of other companies make Swiss Army-style knives, some for a much lower price. I can’t vouch for the quality of them.

Often the knives are available at discount places online, but $10 is only going to get you this.

I don’t have a cite, but I seem to recall that you can send it back to the manufacturer and they will refurbish the knife for a modest fee. Check for the manufacturer of your knife and contact them…it may be cheaper to get it fixed and you get to keep your original knife…

You can definitely get your swiss army knife completely refurbished (I seem to recall Victorinox does it free, you just pay for shipping). Not only will they fix whatever’s wrong, they’ll clean and oil the joints, sharpen all the blades, etc.
