"Legends of the Superheroes" (1979)

For those of you who have seen and survived the twisted nightmare that was (and still is) the Star Wars Holiday Special, there’s something out there that’s even worse.

It’s The Legends of the Superheroes.

It was a thankfully short-lived series (two eps) on NBC in 1979.

Like SWHS, it, too, has “stars”: Adam West as Batman, Burt Ward as Robin, Frank Gorshin as the Riddler, etc.

Watch this and you’ll be begging for Wookie porn.

Why, Ed McMahon, why???

Chalie Callas as Sinestro:

“Yeah, Green Lantern, I’m gonna zap you with my ring! vvvt vvvt vvvt, whoo, nyert nyert humna humna pwee!”

Hey, when I was twelve, I thought it was hilarious!

I loved the way they did the “special effects” for the Flash.

Notice that it was written by committee, and that most of the writers were actually better known for drawing than for writing.

Actually, those “uncredited” writers probably had nothing to do with the actual TV show, especially since C.C. Beck and Bob Kane were working as far back as the late 1930s and into the '40s. Those guys were the creators of those respective characters in the comics, so the IMDB profile writer probably just wanted to give credit where credit was due:

Holy Alzheimer’s Batman! I totally put this thing out of my head! LOL. It was such a hoot! Almost as good as Electra Woman and Dyna-Girl.

Odd that I have absolutely no memory of this thing whatsoever. Anime aside, I thught I’d seen (or at least heard of) pretty much every major superhero TV show and movie produced in the 70s and 80s that dealt with Marvel and DC characters.

Thanks for the link!

If you see it, you won’t be thanking anyone.

Mr. Blue Sky. No, no. I’ll still thank you. Manners and all. I’d just be lying through my teeth.
