Legion of Three Worlds--Anyone Want to Discuss?

I enjoyed it but found the pacing horribly flawed. The art was gorgeous, but hey–it’s Perez…what do you expect?

Couple of points:

  1. Ok, my understanding from interviews (and the costumes & cast agree) that the Earth One Legion has been rebooted back to roughly Legion vol 3, number 18, give or take a few issues. That resolves a lot of problems–it gets rid of the "pocket universe thing (which never explained Supergirl or Mon-El) and gets rid of the Superman has to kill to figure out he doesn’t like it thing) but it still leaves a problem. That Braniac 5 was in love with and dated Supergirl. About 3 or 4 issues before v3, 18, it showed Brainy mourning Supergirl. But the Supergirl he’s mourning isn’t and really kinda can’t be the Supergirl who’s running around.

  2. I love the “Haircut” line at the end–Brainy’s hair got long when he was mourning Supergirl back in…um…1985. Apparently Coluan hair grows slowly?

  3. HUGE kudos to Johns for A) ditching the postboot Legion (who were way, WAY too derivative of the preboot Legion) and B) ditching them in a way that makes it easy to bring them back if someone really wants them (and they will–every character is someone’s favorite). As far as I’m concerned, THIS, and not the Byrne-your-bridges method is the way to handle stuff.

  4. HA! I knew the threeboot (“Stuff it, Grandpa”) Legion was from Earth Prime!

  5. The XS fix was nice as was snagging Gates. I wish they’d gotten Shikari as well although she’s just their Dawnstar–I just liked the characterization.

No. No, I don’t want to discuss. I just want to whimper. And wish Superboy Prime into the cornfield. Apparently, this is what DC thinks its fans are. (The thread exists, by the way.)

Eh. I’m basically just going ‘it’s over, it’s over, please let all this Final Crisis die, please?’ At least the rest of the comics are good. I’m enjoying the Superman titles.

(personal opinion of Johns based on the time I met him and didn’t know who he was snipped.)

I liked it. Held together well. The Supergirl point is only problematic if you assume that CoIE, Zero Hour, and IC didn’t change New Earth’s timeline at all. We know it did. So while you can enjoy most of your old Legion stories and have them in canon, the stuff with Supergirl is right out still. Though it was nice to see '85 Kara cameo in the book.

I wanted reboot Lyle and Val to stick around as well.

Hah–the sequel to Legion of Three Worlds
