Leno/Conan Shakeup at NBC

Is it a coincidence that Seinfeld’s new reality show will be filling Jay’s old time slot one night a week after the Winer Olympics? The more I see him, the more Jerry Seinfeld seems like an anachronism. He was the fourth funniest person on Seinfeld, except when he was bumped further down by recurring characters.

I don’t know how to set it up either, but…Tina Fey.

If you think I’M gonna try to organize and figure out how to set it up? I can’t even organize my purse. Never mind.

Nah, not at all. Showbusiness is showbusiness. They aren’t going to care. They just want to plug their products as they always have, and they will continue to do so in force.

I’d suspect that a celebrity who owes her fame to 2 NBC series would be likely to appear on the Tonight Show, regardless of host.

You’re making it sound like a school playground fight. It’s not Conan’s show, it’s the network’s show and Conan is poison in this time slot.

The New York Times had an article about how the Internet community was solidly behind Conan, with some sites being as much as 50 to 1 in his favor.

Which would be cool except for one thing. They didn’t watch the actual show.

There’s a good reason why they didn’t watch the show. It wasn’t very good. That’s also the reason that Leno was in trouble. His new show wasn’t very good either.

But neither of them can fault the other for not putting on a very good show. And as much as Conan’s fans would like to blame anybody else in the universe for that, the fault is Conan’s.

If fans had put their channel selectors where their mouths are and watched Conan’s not very good show, none of this would be happening. They didn’t. Now their protests are not only too little, too late, but hypocritical.

The “Internet community” would probably rather watch his show online. One problem with that: watching a show online does not contribute to its ratings. And the networks still live and die by the ratings… the Internet is just this funny fringe thing that they haven’t figured out how to really profit from, and probably never will (oh sure, they make a little side cash putting it on Hulu but it’s peanuts compared to traditional broadcasting revenue).

Those of you that don’t find Downfall parodies still funny…please leave now.

Or maybe not.

No new Jay Leno deal; Conan O’Brien ‘still working’

Or it could be TMZ is right and NBC isn’t yet ready to officially announce Leno’s new deal. Anyway, the drama continues.

This tends to be the case with TMZ breaking reports- they initial get denied by the PR teams, but within a day or two, TMZ is shown to be right.

It does. I watched shows on Hulu, OnDemand and so forth, and logged thm in my little book.

conan is poison in this time slot because he wasn’t given the time to find his legs, he was in competition with Jay Leno himself and Jay Leno’s craptacular variety comedy show at 10pm was the poison that seeped into his possible ratings market.

No sympathy for Jay leno, he sucks he always will suck. Conan on the other hand is funny to me and will always have a fan cheering him on.

That is based on the premise that anything about Seinfeld and its cast (with the possible exception of a couple of Julia Louis-Dreyfus old SNL bits) was ever, in any way, shape or form remotely humorous in the first place.

I don’t know (or give a good mollyfock) what Jerry Seinfeld said about Conan or Leno, but if he is stating that he finds Jay Leno the better comedian, that’s gotta be one more nail in Leno’s comedy coffin.

Even though I have never found Jay Leno funny, I have always understood that he was supposedly a decent guy and a class act.

It seems that I may have been wrong…

I’m naive, I suppose, but I can’t believe Jay would take the Tonight Show back from Conan.

What a fool if he does. I can’t respect him for it. Conan, good or not, deserves a real shot. Jay should leave and work on something else.

The local Blockbuster carries it. Never heard of it before it hit Youtube. Bruno Ganz nails Hitler. I must rent it.

And the company thought the Youtube parodies were a negative!

My sentiment exactly when I first saw the parody.

This debacle is going to backfire on NBC so bad it’s not even funny. They’re polarizing the audience and turning people who don’t mind Leno into people who hate Leno… And this is the younger generation, the audience of the future. This does not look like a good situation for the network at all.

Conan had a really good joke tonight about the feud. Apparently he’d been offered a role in a porno film. The catch is that right as he’s about to climax, Jay Leno comes in and takes over.
And then he did the Jay Leno voice
I have to admit, as disturbing as it was, that was a pretty funny mental visual.
