Variety reports that Paramount Pictures has picked up Atari, a biopic of Nolan Bushnell, Atari’s founder. Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to play Bushnell and is also producing.
I’ve read a lot about the history of video games, and the tales of Atari are often hilarious, surprising, and entertaining- they’d make a great film. I don’t know if DiCaprio would make a good Bushnell, but the Atari story sounds like great film material- innovation, colorful characters, clever lies, corporate incompetence (on Warner Brothers’s behalf, not Bushnell’s)- I’m looking forward to this, and I was born when Atari was dead!
