You were probably thinking of Grossman’s early years in the music business. The various artists who worked for his record company will have a few things to say as well.

If I have any criticism at all, it will be that he tends to wiggle his booty too much. Men don’t wiggle their booties in hip-hop. The good news is, he seems to have gotten that under control, as I didn’t see much booty shaking in his performance at the MTV movie awards.

Being a slightly worse dancer than Stephen Hawking, I actually noticed that. I think he does it because of the site gag of the enormous padded ass.

Was going to mention Get Him to the Greek before Raygun99 beat me to the punch.* Oddly, Jonah Hill, who was also in Sarah Marshall, co-stars in Greek, but apparently as a different character. (I haven’t seen it yet, but I wonder if there’s any mention by Brand of Hill’s character looking a lot like that annoying waiter he met in Hawaii a couple years ago.)

I saw Get Him to the Greek last week (it had its moments, and I liked the ending) and there was no mention of Hill looking like the creepy waiter from the earlier movie. Speaking of Forgetting Sarah Marshall though, Sarah (Kristen Bell) was shown in a TV commercial that Aldous Snow was watching. I don’t remember what the reaction was.

Les is a great character and Cruise did a great job with it. However a good story needs conflict, and usually a protagonist and an antagonist. Cruise’s own projects tend to make the protagonist a Mary Sue and the antagonist someone totally unsympathetic. Consider Mission Imp III, with Phillip Seymore Hoffman as the bad guy. As great an actor as Hoffman is, we don’t care about his character and the same with Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. Will we care about Les Grossman screwing people for 90 minutes?
