Lesser of 2 evils: Wine or Vodka

If one is absolutely going to drink one of the 2 following amounts of alcohol each night, which is the least damaging?:

2 Cups of Vodka, OR
3 Cups of Chardonnay.

Yes, I agree, that’s too much alcohol either way. I don’t want this to turn into that kind of thread.

Which is ultimately worse for a person, or are they equally damaging?

2 cups of vodka? As in 16 fluid ounces?

Yup.

16 shots of vodka will definitely tear you up in a way that can not be approached by 3 normal-sized glasses of wine.

Assuming the actual alcohol content of 1 oz of vodka is approximately equal to 1 glass of wine.

The less-evil choice would be the wine.

Yeah. I don’t have science to back me up on this but anecdotally I will tell you that 16 shots of vodka is a much more intense experience than 3 glasses of white wine.

I wouldn’t even consider 3 glasses of wine a night to be excessive. (ok, maybe a little, but not seriously excessive)

For the record, I get about 4 glasses out of a liter of wine. So that much vodka would be like 4 bottles of wine.

Add-on question: Which hangover would be worse–16 vodkas or 4 bottles of (ok, even good) white wine?

Careful there. A normal-sized glass of wine is about 5 fluid ounces, and a normal-sized shot is 1.5 fluid ounces. So we’re comparing about 5 glasses of wine with 11 shots of vodka.

A better way to compare is via ethanol content. Two cups of 80-proof vodka have 6.4 fluid ounces of ethanol in it, while three cups of wine contain about 3.2 fluid ounces of ethanol. So the vodka is more likely to be bad for you.

Same caveate as above, but there isn’t a question in my mind that white wine would be a LOT worse.

I never get hungover from White wine, so I’d say the vodka.

Red wine, though. That’s a killer.
