Why is this a reason to vote against democratic politicians?
That’s just BS. You can and should do better.
Because while Republicans/Conservatives are also spendthrifts, the current Democrats/Liberals are far worse.
Look atbwhat’s going on in Washington. Fresh off of Donald Trump’s trillion dollar Covid package, the Democrats passed another 1.9 trillion, Then they got their 1.2 trillion ‘infrastructure’ package (almost none of which is actual infrastructure), and now want to pass a 3.5 trillion dollar package larded up with new entitlements.
In Canada, the Liberals were livid about Harper’s deficit in his last year which was 2.9 billion dollars. Trudeau ran in part on Harper’s deficit, which he claimed was irresponsible.
Then Trudeau was elected, and these are his deficits:
$29.4 billion
$19 billion
$14 billion
$39.4 billion
$314 billion
$154.7 billion (projected)
The last two include COVID benefits, which were exceedingly generous. But after campaigning on fiscal responsibility and an official campaign promise to never let the deficit go above $10 billion, Trudeau broke his word immediately and brought in deficits at least ten times higher than the ‘outrageous’ Harper deficits.
And it’s not just COVID blowing up the deficits. The new budget vontains a huge amount of ootional new spending, such as a $2 billion daycare program, and $100 billion over three years for ‘green’ initiatives.
Trudeau is on track to have cumulative deficits larger than all previous Prime Ministers combined.
Do I wish Conservatives were more fiscally prudent? Yes. But as I said earlier, I don’t consider them good, but the least-bad option.
(cough!) Bush tax cuts during two multi-trillion dollar wars. (cough!)
Trump tax cuts (cough!)
The problem with modern capitalism is that it enriches those who have capital, but those who are working just to get by, and who don’t actually own anything, are disadvantaged. The last two major economic crises have only exacerbated this inequality, which is as bad as it has been since the early 1900s.
So at some other time you voted Democratic ticket?
And watch as Russia or China decide they’re only to happy to step in and provide them instead, gaining preferential access to all that oil in the process.
The sooner we can move to renewables, the better, but it’s quite a ways off yet.
I wish Kamala Harris would resign. Biden could then nominate a general (Milley or someone else) as VP. Then, President Biden resigns (due to health concerns) and the general becomes commander in chief. Declare a state of emergency because reasons, and then they arrest Republicans who resist.
'Member kids, asahi thinks Trump is the greatest threat to democracy!
This is my biggest problem with your position; no matter the topic, this is basically what you ALWAYS say.
You will lay out your stance on policy positions that make it sound like you are left-of-center, completely at odds with the Republican Party, and then vociferously defend said party (despite not being American), almost without exception, with the statement “#Democrat-Stand-In is worse”, despite absolute, real-world empirical evidence to the contrary. I can only assume FoxNews must play in Canada (or Rush/Hannity/etc. on talk radio) and that you have swallowed whole the “Imaginary Boogeyman Left” they have been peddling these last couple of decades. You excuse the Republicans for ACTUAL destructive actions, while claiming not to excuse them, but decry the Democrats because of scary things they have only done in your fevered imagination, or in the minds of whatever pundits are feeding you this garbage.
A military coup, what a great idea!
And who is the military made up of again? C’mon now! Cut the malarky.
Pentagon may have gone woke and clown world but I wouldn’t bet on the average enlisted believing the same nonsense Dopey Milley et al. do.
I have. Repeatedly. And you’ve handwaved it away because it didn’t fit your Preferred Narrative.
Wow. That’s just…wow.
No. Just…no.
At least we know the Democrats wouldn’t elect someone espousing the sort of thing asahi just did. Unlike the Republicans.
Right-wing media: “The Pentagon is woke! The Democrats are in bed with the CCP!”
octopus: “The Pentagon is woke! The Democrats are in bed with the CCP! No, you’re the hivemind!”"
Seconded.
Is this another drunk post?
This is perfectly stated and describes exactly what I see. He does this all the time. I don’t understand it because it’s obvious Sam is literate, in spite of all the typos in his posts.

Yup, nailed it.

I believe the right level of taxes is maybe slightly lower than where they are now.
Taxes today are pretty much at the historically lowest levels they’ve ever been. How much lower do you really want to go?

I believe in a social safety net.
Hard to fund at current tax levels, much less at lower ones.

we are currently over-regulated. Business startup should be much easier than it is.
I hear such things all the time, but when asked for any specific regulation that they are actually against, I only hear crickets. It’s a soundbite, not a policy.
Let me ask you, I had to pay several thousand dollars in order to move a couple of sprinkler heads a few feet in order to make the fire marshall happy, would that be the sort of regulation that you would be against?

My family complies with mask mandates, and we all have two shots. Because we’re not stupid.
Do you think that others should be required to do the same? Should they not be allowed to attend school or public gatherings, should businesses be allowed to turn them away if they don’t comply?

What I am is a defender of Capitalism.
Pretty nebulous statement. There aren’t many who are against capitalism, just those who point out its flaws and work to ameliorate those flaws. Do you admit that capitalism has flaws, or do you believe that it solves all problems?
Signs you may be authoritarian
- arguing for martial law
- arguing for the arrests of political dissidents
- arguing that a general should take the place of elected leadership

So, would you be in favor of tax increases to pay for these, in order to avoid increasing the deficit?
Why go after only the spending, which I might point out, was during a historically unprecedented crisis, and never go after the tax cuts which dig a much larger whole?

So, Donald Trump? I mean, apart from arguing that a general should take his place, seeing as he was the elected leadership. I just want to make sure we’re on the same page here.
