I think his point is closer to “The facts don’t matter, and the moral high ground doesn’t win you elections.”
And, for real: show me the lie in that.

ISTM that what I said does clearly send the message that I’m not in favor of teaching that “being white is bad”.
If they ask me in so many words whether I want to teach that being white is bad, that’s an easy answer. But I don’t think I should encourage Republican disinformation bullshit by spontaneously reinforcing the bullshit association between “CRT” and “teaching that being white is bad”, by jumping to the conclusion that that’s what my interlocutor means.
That’s fair, but kowtowing to liars DOESN’T WIN ELECTIONS EITHER. For example, Democrats spent the last 6-7 decades denouncing Socialism, yet Republicans still trot out that accusation against everything from the ACA to the most basic climate change regulations to any kind of unemployment program or change to the tax structure.
Meanwhile we’ve gotten to the point where most Americans don’t actually know what the fuck socialism IS. Just look at the recent thread on the topic where conservative posters confidently assert utter nonsense as the definition of Socialism.
We were asked to move this discussion to a new thread. I had already put a fair amount of work into my responses, so I’ll go ahead and start it here. Right, they could just self actualize. The training, the tools, the property they work in, they could just do themselves. I never said that, but now that you mention it, I have taken people who were working in dead end jobs, and they now make a very good wage and have skills that otherwise they would not have. They are not beholden to me. They…
Democrats could denounce CRT until they’re blue in the face. IT DOESN’T MATTER. Republicans will just shift the goalposts further and further until mentioning the word “slavery” in a classroom is as unthinkable a sin as mentioning Socialism in congress.
For a clear demonstration of this, check out the Fox News website tag for “Socialism”, and note how the articles have FUCK-ALL to do with Socialism.
socialism
The messaging should be, “We don’t teach CRT to your children, we teach History based on documented facts” .
How is that different from what teachers are actually saying in response to such accusations? ISTM that that messaging is being pretty strongly emphasized, including in the NEA article you linked to.
The problem AFAICT is that Republicans are simply refusing to hear the message, because they’re hiding in their right-wing media bubble where they don’t have to listen to it.

How did Democrats win 13 consecutive elections in Virginia from 2012 to 2020 when to do so they had to appeal to the same group of Fox-indoctrinated white supremacist morons that voted last night? Still not even an attempt at answering this from the CRT liars who have all the answers except the ones that make any sense.
What @Martin_Hyde, @Jimmy_Chitwood, @ZosterSandstorm, et al are staying is that unless you 100% pander to fragile white voters they will vote against you en masse. As a conservative you can never lose by using race as a wedge.
What I don’t quite understand is why the above crew is upset, it seems their side is winning.
That’s fair, but kowtowing to liars DOESN’T WIN ELECTIONS EITHER.
Yeah, I think Martin’s right about Dems needing to punch harder, but I think he’s offbase on how to deal with CRT specifically. Engaging their lies is like sinking into a tarpit, but simply ignoring them doesn’t work, either. We have to stop letting Republicans set the terms of debate. The best response to “Why do you support CRT?” isn’t, “Well, actually CRT is…” nor is it, “You’re right, CRT is the devil.” The best response to “Why do you support CRT?” is “Forget CRT. The real question on voter’s minds is, why do you support sheep fucking?”
Where’s LBJ when we really need him?

So is that what Obama did when he handily won Virginia twice? Or does the CRT explanation (everything is RACE RACE RACE all the time, white people don’t do anything except out of a calculation as to what will harm blacks the most) make absolutely no sense when applied to Virginia voting patterns, much like it’s total nonsense in every other context?
See very fragile.
Critical Race Theory exists. The CRT strawman that Republicans keep talking about, doesn’t really.
But they rhyme, so it’s easy to manipulate low-information voters into thinking they’re the same thing. It’s like the manifestation of the Mandela Effect where people believe that Tom Cruise wore Rat-Bans when he danced in his skivvies in Risky Business.

Because by focusing on the lie of CRT Republicans found an extremely effective source of propaganda to tap into.
(Or, more realistically, a bunch of reasons, of which the lie about CRT was one)
How did Democrats win 13 consecutive elections in Virginia from 2012 to 2020
Huh? Virginia has had three gubernatorial elections since 2012: they elected Democrat Terry McAuliffe in 2013, Democrat Ralph Northam in 2017, and Republican Greg Youngkin in 2021. (Prior to that in the current millennium, they elected Democrat Mark Warner in 2001, Democrat Tim Kaine in 2005, and Republican Bob McDonnell in 2009.)
This cherrypicking of other election results to make it look like this Republican gubernatorial victory is some kind of unprecedented trend-bucking in Virginia politics is bullshit.
Now lecture me about how Dukakis doesn’t have to worry about Willie Horton because “he didn’t personal approve his furlough, the furlough program was started by Dukakis’ predecessor, and we shouldn’t judge a criminal justice program based on one extreme event.”
Willie Horton is an excellent comparison actually because the own-fart-sniffing wing of the Democrats took it as an article of faith that no one REALLY wants rapists and murderers kept in prison, and no one is REALLY concerned about their family’s safety, it’s all just a pretext for disliking black people. Before Clinton backed them off of it the party’s mainstream actually believed that if Willie Horton were white everyone would have been OK with how his case was handled. Since the crazy wing of the Dems is much more able to control media discourse and exclusionary spaces like this message board than it is to win elections, this insane belief has continued in those areas.
Fast forward to Virginia in 2021. Your problem with your daughter being raped in the bathroom at school isn’t real. You don’t want your child to be safe from forcible sodomy, and you don’t really have a problem with the school board protecting the offender and lying about it, you’re just pretending to care about these things because the rapist was transgender and that’s what you actually don’t like. If the boy who held your daughter down in the bathroom during school hours and anally raped her before being patted on the back by the principal and told he could keep doing it at another school was wearing a football uniform instead of a skirt while doing it, you’d have no objections to the situation at all.
That was the messaging that McAuliffe chose to go with in the week before the election. This is the insane logic that online Democrats who have lost touch with reality accept as gospel, and it played a huge part in why they lost this election.
when to do so they had to appeal to the same group of Fox-indoctrinated white supremacist morons
Also, I’ll note that these are your words, not mine. The danger of these sorts of Big Lies is that they appeal to human nature, ie the way our minds are evolved to work. All our minds, not just those of “Fox-indoctrinated white supremacist morons”.

Why don’t Presidential and Senate results count against the thesis that “Virginia voters love Republicans because they all get their white supremacy marching orders from Fox News?” Because you say so? How is including all election results “cherry picking?”
Especially voting against Trump twice - weird thing for a bunch of white supremacists to do.
But if you know what they want to know is your answer to the question “do you want to teach my kid that being white is bad,” then politically I believe the winning move is to give a good answer to that question. Which might include a lot of what you’re saying. But it would also include answering that question.
99.9% of the people out there, liberals included, liberal commie teachers included, are already saying this.
The messaging should be, “We don’t teach CRT to your children, we teach History based on documented facts” . Period. End of conversation. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Same as above.
The problem is as k9befriender describes. Republicans and conservatives, even the “middle of the road” ones, have dug their heels in the sand about any change that challenges their distant or not-so-distant memories of how the world was when they were kids. They aren’t confused by CRT, they are actively allying with any position that absolves them from having to talk about anything that makes them uncomfortable. Combined with refusal to listen to reasonable or factual positions from the left, because they’re so invested in being right about how wrong liberals are that they are unwilling to acknowledge anything that challenges that position, and again, anything that might implicate anything about the status quo which they love so much might need changing.
The danger of these sorts of Big Lies is that they appeal to human nature, ie the way our minds are evolved to work. All our minds, not just those of “Fox-indoctrinated white supremacist morons”.
Deciding to stake the whole campaign on “we think it’s good for your kids to be raped on the way to being told they were born evil because of their race, which we do instead of teaching calculus now” was indeed a great way to offend broad swathes of the electorate, not just hardcore Republicans, as was insisting on repeatedly lying about it and having parents arrested for objecting.
Nobody said that you clown.
From a poster in another thread: “Since Carter, the Virginia governor candidate from the opposite party of the president has won all but one race and that had a stronger than average third party candidate.”
If you think this one election was THE PROOF of anything, you are a fool.
Jesus Christ. You, meanwhile, are the reason Democrats almost win elections even when they don’t get their shit together. All they have to do is point to you and be like, listen, you want this guy deciding anything?
