Much appreciated, really – and you’re one of my favorite posters (even when I disagree with you), but what in God’s name ever gave you the idea that I’m a conservative?
I don’t think that’s fair. When people do the right thing, we should start with applauding that, not second-guessing their motives. And in this case, not only are they showing the Republican party the way, but Democrats too. Too many Democrats and PACs still try to play politics with old-fashioned rules of decorum. Call a spade a spade FFS.
Let alone people like Manchin searching for bipartisan consensus, who are essentially enablers at this point.
The progressive left are pushing policies that are essentially the same as Western europe: strong social safety net, free healthcare, higher minimum wage, higher marginal tax rates, gun control etc.
I’ve lived most of my life in such a hellscape. I’ve walked the mean streets of Stockholm, pausing only to buy a coffee and a cake.
Let alone the do-gooders who did my expensive heart surgery as a child; trampling all over my right to have lived into adulthood with a chronic condition.
Who said they were equivalent? I’m sure a lot more shoes and tvs were stolen and a lot more businesses burned and a lot more injuries and life lost during the ‘summer of love’
The U.S. border crisis is real, and it has a lot to do with a growing ecological/political crisis in the Americas that is only going to get worse. The difference is that Trump used the crisis to inflict cruelty as a deterrent against migration. In a lot of cases, yes, the living conditions still suck for many of these migrants but it’s not because Biden is deliberately using them to make examples of them in an attempt to deter migration. Intentions matter.
I thought you were a “self-confessed” one. I could’ve sworn I read something by you at some point where you identified as conservative, and I was a little surprised. But maybe I misread it or mixed you up with someone else. No offense🙂
And I’m going to go out on a limb and say I think we used to be neighbors……although I may be wrong about that, too. Astoria NY, possibly in the 30th Ave vicinity?
But then you are resenting the basic foundations necessary for intelligent debate or discussion. Of course you have to show your work in any opinion you state. Otherwise you might as well be saying that you believe gravity is caused by fairies.
If you claim something dubious on the SDMB, the response will always be “Cite?” If you resent that, then there’s no reason to post here.
You act like there’s nothing that can be done about it, as if policies have no effect. But that’s not true. And Biden would be a lot more likely to do something about it if the press held him to account. It makes it seem like it’s just another exercise in partisan politics.
Not fair to say they are ex republicans who have big political problems and baggage? I liked the ads, and I empathize with them, but I am not going into happyland because someone did the right thing once. People get all proud of doing what they’re supposed to do nowadays.
You know what Liz Cheney will do about voter suppression? She likes it. She is for a lot of the things that are extremely dangerous right now. I don’t know about Steve Schmidt but I can’t accept righties who are not being thoughtful and reflective of their own part in what has become the new reality. It is infantile.
I’d like to specify that while octo and DT are obvious trolls, IMO, @Sam_Stone is not. Hilariously gullible sometimes, yes. An unlimited amount of willingness to assume good faith on the right, but not so much the left, yes, very often. But I’ve never doubted his sincerity. I don’t think octo or DT have contributed anything that improves the board in months, if not years (aside from a few non-trolling posts from DT that I recall, perhaps), but Sam is not a bad poster, and generally clearly and honestly lays out his thoughts, AFAICT. He’s just monumentally wrong very often, sometimes to the point of deserving a bit of brutal mockery.
