Tomorrow is the last day for voting on this list. I will rent the movie(s) to be watched on Friday. After I submit that review (which may go in a new thread) then we’ll add new nominees to the list and keep voting. All previous films named and votes received will carry over. I’ll rent and watch up to 3 movies, so we can pare the list down as much as possible. I’ll also take the full list of nominees with me when I go a-renting and knock off any films that aren’t readily available for me to rent.
Good think I’m growing a beard, maybe the people at Blockbuster won’t recognize me.
Am I too late to vote?? I vote for Exorcist II: The Heretic
I vote for Hudson Hawk.
Its an excellent movie that most people seem to hate yet I don’t know why. It funny in its way and has a charming adventure.
I hope Crunchy Frog can help validate it as an unrecognised classic. I would have figured that this would get more votes because I am sure most people don’t know what kind of film this is. I think that the vote getters are stinker for sure.
Time’s running out. Tomorrow I go renting.
Here’s how the vote stands so far:
4 votes for Stop or My Mom Willl Shoot
4 votes for I Spit On Your Grave
3 votes for Ishtar
2 votes for Exorcist II: The Heretic
2 votes for Hudson Hawk
2 votes for Battlefield Earth
2 votes for Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies (but remember when voting, I’ll have to be able to find these movies)

I’ll be renting the top 3 vote-getters. In case of a tie, I’ll be renting the movie I’m more curious about seeing for myself.
Another vote for Crossroads, the Britney Spears version. I reaaaaly want to know, can she act?
Or is it just the bubble gum packaging…
Exorcist II: The Heretic
I vote for Ishtar. I’ve been tempted to rent it a few times, but never seem to have the money.
If you can get them:

dwc1970, here’s a review of Battlefield Earth by a friend of mine that will tell you everything you need to know about that particular crime against humanity:

For what it’s worth, I consider myself a pretty discerning movie fan; I think I’ve watched enough films–about 300 a year–and developed a pretty decent artistic consciousness to have a great deal of confidence in my critical judgment. (To a certain extent, I think Cervaise will back me up on this.)
That said, let me recommend Ishtar to you for the simple reason that it is a good movie, and a chilling example of how a critical bandwagon can ruin a great director’s career. I also happen to think that another director, Paul Verhoeven, will, like Alfred Hitchcock and Douglas Sirk, come into his own with the critics about 20 or 30 years too late, and that Showgirls will come to be seen as a brilliant (if vicious and cynical) satire on American business culture.
Another vote for ISOYG!
So when is the review? Am I missing something?
::scratches head::
I’d like to see you sit through Oscar, but I sincerely hope they didn’t waste resources on preserving it in any format, VHS or DVD.
He should watch it on DVD and watch the commentary first. It will help immensely.
Still, I want those few hours of my life BACK.
I’d really like someone ELSE to watch I Spit On Your Grave on my behalf. I’m afraid I might be permanently traumatized by it.
Hi, sorry everyone, I know I was supposd to have the review(s) done by the end of the weekend, but a little something came up and I had to run to Kentucky to visit some family. I get off work at 11pm tonight, so I should just have enough time to hit the Blockbuster video on the way home.
The films to be reviewed (if available) are:
I Spit On Your Grave (top vote getter)
Stop or My Mom Will Shoot and
Ishtar (tied for 2nd)
Here’s where the voting stands on the rest of the list, I’ll add the other suggestions that have popped up when I have more time

I’ll fourth (or fifth) what others have already said: The Dish is a very GOOD film.
(FTR, they are Australians, not New Zealanders.)
I vote for Crossroads.
Ok, so the top 3 vote-getters weren’t at my local Blockbuster. I’ll check out a couple more places and try to get to them later. Instead I rented and watched the next-closet vote-getter: Exorcist II: The Heretic. You can read the review right here.
Everyone keep on voting, here’s the list. And we’ll just keep this vote going until I can either find and do reviews of the 3 films I was supposed to watch or until it’s determined I won’t be able to watch those movies for whatever reason. Here’s the new list, some films knocked off from before as unable to find:
3 votes for Crossroads-The Britney Spears version
2 votes for Hudson Hawk
2 votes for Battlefield Earth
2 votes for Riki Oh - The Story of Ricky
And the rest of the list:
The Blue Iguana

Now I have to ask, how many of you are actually curious in wanting to know if a movie is worth the rental and how many just want to make me watch bad movies? Isn’t anyone curious about The English Patient or Kenneth Brannagh’s completely uncut verison of Hamlet?
