Let me take a movie-watching bullet for you.

Then avoid The Grey Zone. Also, I haven’t seen Bloody Sunday yet, but I was told it would disturb me more than The Grey Zone did, so you might want to put that off for a sunny day or something.

(I don’t know if anyone’s nominated those films yet, but better safe than suicidal.)

Another vote for Freddy Got Fingered and one for Ishtar if you can find it.

Ooo! Another vote for Wing Commander. It got one star from Roger Ebert and has a 3.7 rating on the IMDb!

A doper has already made the ultimate sacrifice and watched Freddy. Cervasie wrote a really good review of it too. (Note that I didn’t say the movie was good - but the review is really insightful.)

Personally, I’d vote for Waterworld.

I’ll cast a vote for Wing Commander as well. I’d review it myself, but it’s been so long since I’ve seen it I don’t clearly remember all the plot points I’d like to mock.

I do remember, seeing it in the theater (yes, I knew that it was intended as a direct-to-video, I have no explanation why I went to see it) that at the Dramatic Revalation scene, there was an audible groan of disgust from the audience. There was a real sense of camraderie coming out of the movie, similar to the camraderie one would find in a group who had spent an hour and a half slogging through raw sewage.

So, yeah, I vote for that one.

Hey, I didn’t think Wing Commander was that bad. But then, I watched it on TV late one night and thus paid no money to see it, unlike that pile of steaming offal that was Ishtar. The whole thing was full of jokes that probably seemed funny on paper but weren’t. At all.

A pity the nomination list is closed, as I’ve been curious about The Specials. Anyone seen it, and is it better or worse than, say, Mystery Men?

FWIW - I ordered the Millenium edition of I Spit On Your Grave DVD based only on the reviews I’ve read about it. I’ll probably get it at the end of the week.

The nomination list is no longer closed, I just did that so we could get some votes going on the current list. Feel free to add new nominations. And since someone has linked to the Freddy Got Fingered review, I’ll let my fellow Dopers decide if I should still watch it or let it go.

jr8: Wing Commander (which I’ll call WC, an oddly appropriate abbreviation) wasn’t bad, if you don’t mind being able to predict exactly what’s going to happen, if you’ve never seen a WWII naval movie, (carriers or subs, WC rips off both genres) if you have no sense of physics, and if you like watching stupid people. But yeah, other than that it’s great.

I’m just bitter because I paid good money for the thing. Oh, and it meant my wife got to choose any movie she wanted next time, and I couldn’t rightly complain no matter what it was.

I want to nominate Formula 51. Looks like it could be good, but the whole straight to video thing scares me a bit. Is it worth a rental?

Sorry to bump this, but has Crunchy left the building? I for one would be interested to read his next review. And if votes are still acceptable, I would vote for either Hudson Hawk or Event Horizon, both of which I did like to some extent. Pity that you apparently couldn’t get Ishtar.
