Hey, someone just posted on one of my dog rescue lists that there’s someone in Anchorage wanting to adopt a doxie.
Can you get the keys to this place?

Ah, rant retracted then. It sounded as though you were talking about just putting them in the crate during the away part of the day. If you meant just the OP situation, where the poor thing is in there all the time, I agree with you. If you never want the dog out of a box at all, I’m not sure why you wanted to have one.
I crated my pup for housetraining; overnight & while I was at work. When he was house trained, no moer need to crate him. Now it’s his bed. He goes there when little children come over & tease him. He hides there when I start yelling. He feels safe in his bed. There is NO WAY IN HELL I would even think of confining him to bed for most of his life. Peopel wh do that are just…I don’t have words for them. Like ppl who tie their children to stair rails & starve them to death. :mad
Crate training DOES NOT mean leave the fucking dog locked up while you are at work for 8 hours or gone for the weekend.
It means establishing, as was said, a “den” type atmosphere for the dog. It allows the dog to have a safe friendly place to chill.
If you think you can lock your dog in a crate all fucking day while you are at work, you should be locked up your own damn self.
Yeah, it was puppy-in-a-can I was talking about, not anything else.
Allow me to reapply my above rant here then.
I just dont understand people sometimes. Why would you even WANT a dog if you were going to keep it locked up all freaking day? Things like that just piss me off. Animals are not disposable, they are not toys, they are not decorations. They are living breathing creatures with feelings just like you and I. And I am not against crate-training, but I am against people like in the OP that leave the dog in the crate 24/7.
These people are the same kind of people that buy persian cats just to decorate their couch, and buy beautiful parrots that they leave in the cage their whole life, just because they’re pretty.
I agree completely. Great rant.
I have a friend whose little sister bugged their parents (NOT dog people) until they bought her a dog. A spaniel puppy, which they proceeded to keep locked in her crate ALL THE FUCKING TIME. I would come over and ask to play with it, and they let her out and (natch) she was so excited she ran all over the place and jumped up and down on me (the guest) and ‘leaked’ all over the floor, until they got fed up and LOCKED HER UP AGAIN. They would take her for a half-hour walk or so every day (I hope they at least did it every day), on-leash. I was so angry!
OF COURSE she runs around like a fool when there are people around! Wouldn’t you, if you were locked up the rest of the time? How can she learn to behave herself if you never give her the chance? How can you expect her to be calm if you NEVER LET HER EXERCISE? I swear, there should be a ‘citizen’s arrest’ procedure for pets. If you are more concerned with keeping your house tidy than you are with keeping your pet happy, YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A PET.
grrrrrr.
