Meanwhile, Michael sits by Terri’s bed.
Bob and Mary are going to regret this. They weren’t there to tell Terri goodbye.

I think Terry will disapear when he is no longer able to solicit donations to operate his demonstration.

Nah, they’ll blame it on Michael. It’ll be his fault they weren’t there with their daughter at the end, because he’s the sumbitch that killed their baby girl. If he’d just turned her over to them like they’re quite sure Terri would have wanted him to do, they wouldn’t have had to waste all that time in Atlanta and could have sat by her when she met her natural end. Their own freely chosen actions will have nothing whatsoever to do with them not being with her at the end, so they’ll have nothing to regret.
Never underestimate the powers of delusion and rationalization.
Meanwhile, in other news, Israel and Palestine came to a peace agreement, the Pope married Halle Berry, and Michael Jackson has taken President Bush hostage and is holding him at gunpoint. Oh, and England is missing.
But how’s Terri doing?
[I’m not ragging on you guys, it’s just that you might think she’s the only person in the US in a hospital . . .]
YAY! more coastline for me!
Independence day for Scotland and whisky all round ! ( not for Terri though.)
aw - Eve - just joking?
BAH
Oh. That explains the map on my milk carton this morning.
“Missing: Small kingdom. Has been a bit of a bully in the past, but has mellowed with old age. Recently entered second childhood, fell in with a rough crowd led by a very large and muscular teenager and broke into a home across town. Mostly fluffy and harmless of late, otherwise. If found, call Mrs. Windsor, BUckingham-1234.”
As far as the news media is concerned, she is. And there’s also other PVS patients across the country that have had their feeding tubes removed. Right now, they’re also “starving to death.”
I can only imagine the pain those other families are feeling.
As Jon Stewart said last night, “the Schaivo feeding tube will soon be removed, from the cable news networks.”
well for me, personally, who authorized the removal of dad’s feeding tube and stayed with him at the hospice for his final 9 days, there is a deep anger and outrage hearing Shindler comparing it to concentration camps, even more anger and outrage for the pompous assess who keep referring to it as a torturous death by “starvation”. I was there. I watched it. I slept in the bed next to his, woke when the staff would come in (every 2 hours) to turn him, sat by his bed all day and evening. The only time I noticed him in any level of discomfort was when a nurse turned him when it had been over 8 hours since he’d had any pain medication. (yes, I’d told her that, but she decided to turn him first. I busted her on it to the day staff). the rest of the time he was calm and peaceful. He would sometimes reach out to touch a loved ones face or hold their hand (two actions Terri is incapable of).
Had I felt he was in pain at all during that time, I’d have acted differently. as it was, allowing him to quietly slip away in a matter of days vs. being forced to slowly deteriorate over months and months (in his case, in poor Terri’s case it’s been years - and yes, she’s deteriorating - her hands and feet are curling up ) - I have said over and over it was the last and kindest gift I could give him.
Sorry. I stand (well, sit) corrected. Serves me right for trying to quote a radio editorial without researching it myself.
Not would have wanted; WANTS. WANTS. Remember, she said “AAAAAAAAAAAH” the other day, which clearly indicated she wants all the court decisions rescinded and to spend another 15 years in bed with her parents waving balloons in her face.
I know, I know, I am commiting the heinous act of quoting an entire post and on Good Friday, of all days, but it’s worth it.
wring I feel for ya. I was there to help my mother make the decision to take my father off life support. Fortunately for dad (and for me) it was a matter of hours, not days as in your case but it was, as you so beautifully put it, the last and kindest gift we could give him. He died comfortably and at peace. I wish the Shindlers could accept that for their daughter as well.
Well put and well said wring.
You know, I have the feeling that when this is all over, it’s going to hit Michael worse than it will hit her parents. They seem to already feed off of their own pain and grief, but for him, even though it will be a relief to have it over, it’s still gonna hit hard.
Yes, let’s. It’ll pass the time.
[devil’s advocate]
Say I run a small medical aid program in which five people are enrolled. I donate $1000 to pay for their medical care. It’s expensive, y’know. Prescriptions ain’t cheap and my donation doesn’t even cover all their medical costs, just a nice chunk. It eases the burden.
So, the cost of my donation is $5000 to cover all enrollees. The next year there are 10 people enrolled and the cost of prescriptions has risen slightly. I’m going to have to raise my donation to cover everyone. Gee, I can’t really afford to donate $10,000+ but I think I can swing $7,000. Hey, I am increasing my donation, not cutting it. But in order to cover everyone, either some enrollees are going to get less than others (great, if they don’t need it) or everyone gets less.
You were one of my original enrollees receiving $1000 towards your medical expenses, but this year you learn you’re only going to get $700. Think that’s an increase or a cut?

I agree. And having sat with my grandmother for the week or so after her feeding tube was removed until she passed, I couldn’t express what wring said any better.
“If you love someone, set them free…” The rest of the saying may not apply, but I think that first part does just fine for situations like this.
I find this most disgusting. What kind of parent sets their own child up to be arrested? Exactly what point do they think they’re making?
I wonder how far Pinellas Park is from here. Shibboleth, how close are you? You feel up to protesting by proxy?
The thing that really gets on my nerves is all this talk in the media about doctors who say they can improve Terri’s condition.
If that’s true, why the fuck aren’t they out there helping the thousands of other people in persistant vegetative states become normal again? Because they’re a bunch of quacks, that’s why.
Actually, Operation Rescue has been using children for a while. Having them lay down in the street in front of clinics to block cars. I believe the children arrested in this case were coordinated by Operation Rescue as well.
If so, it’s absolutely despicable. Talk about exploiting children!
And there’s no cameras or network microphones in their face. Those other patients aren’t sexy.
